Stillbirth Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have been impacted by a stillbirth. A stillbirth occurs when a fetus which has died in the uterus, during labor, or during delivery exits a woman's body. For help and support, share your experiences and learn how others coped. Don't forget that you are not alone.

Sorry, I'm gonna start this out by saying I don't need to hear people preaching at me about rehab, or counseling, I get enough of that at home.
I hate when my friends today comment on how much I drink. How can they understand what it feels like to lay awake hours at night with the image of your only child, dead, in your arms?? What right do they have to tell me there's other remedies. I tried counseling, support groups, medication, living good and NONE OF IT WORKED. I'm ok most days, but, yes, I have days when I just need a stiff drink before bed because sometimes everything that happened with Sophia still haunts me. I still have nightmares, I still have bad days.
But SO WHAT? All my friends have babies, they don't have any clue what I have been through, what all of us have been through, and they have no right to call me complaining about all their kids' annoying habits and then tell me how I should handle losing my only baby. I am still healing.
They have no clue how it feels to lose all your friends, and then bury your baby and have EVERYTHING in your world fracture and fall apart. I'm back in school, I'm looking for a job. I keep a clean home and I have learned how to laugh again, I'm taking BABY STEPS. My life is not going to recover as fast as they want it to, and I'm going to be sad a lot and have days when I don't want to get out of bed, but after I'm done feeling bad I will get back up and keep soldiering on... because I am still alive and I still want to be happy.
How dare anyone tell me how to grieve! I am doing the best I can... alone. so forget anyone who is so stuck on themselves that they can't emphasize!! I am only human!!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Keep your head up, like you said, it's a learning process. There's no manual for "grieving the loss of your one and only child." If you need anyone to talk to, i'm always here.
Hang in there.
So the next time you pour your drink there is a pretty good chance i'm drinking with ya in southwest PA!!!!!!!!!!!
All of the stuff you wrote in this post, maybe you should write something like this to your friends and family. Maybe they need a reminder that you live this grief every day. When I first lost my daughter, I send out a mass email to my friends and family explaining the situation and letting them know how to interact with me, what to say/not say. I got great feedback from people that admitted they didn't know what to do or how I felt.
If you think your friends would be receptive to something direct like that, then think about it. It's easy to be upset with them for being insensitive, but they probably don't even realize it. Maybe they need to be told that certain things bother you (that you don't want to hear them complain about their kids, etc). Be honest with them. The true friends will understand and adjust their behavior. The ones that are offended or don't care, well, they aren't a true friend anyway...
Keep smiling :)
You're right - they don't have the right to tell you how to grieve, only you know what you can handle in any given day, you are the one having to live it and there is no right way. I hear so much strength in those words, especially the part about Baby Steps. I hope that strength continues and that more good days than bad are ahead for you.
It is terribly annoying and condescending when people give advice as if they have been "there"--and even when they have been in very similar situations it can still do more harm than good. All we can really do is try to be there for each other. I hope you have some true friends/family who just listen (and drink with you!).
