Shyness Support Group
Shyness is a feeling of insecurity that certain people experience while being among others, talking with others, asking favors of others, etc. The initial cause of shyness can vary. Scientists have located some genetic data that supports the hypothesis that shyness is at least partially genetic.

How many of you have depression or high anxiety. If so do you think it may be responsible for your shyness.

I don't have either. I consider myself a calm, level headed person. I think my shyness comes from past experiences with people that have now made me distrustful and leery of bad intentions.

I was very outgoing until I began to struggle with depression and anxiety. so I would say yes, my self confidence is very low now so I feel like it relates.

How to explain if the protrayal kf self-confidence and shyness depends on the people around me and the environment? I hate big groups, you don't know what a particular person is thinking and LOOKING at. This causes me to stutter, sometimes because of their judgmental looks. I don't consider myself having low self esteem but in big groups, I prefer the walls. I dislike it when people judge me by just this one encounter and label me as shy/having low confidence but I'm perfectly confident in one to one encounters. Depends on the individual's closeness to me, I show different sides. Is this a personality disorder?

I have been labeled as shy my whole life. I didn’t know what depression and anxiety were as a kid, but I’ve probably had them since puberty -diagnosed at 18. For me, my anxiety, depression, and shyness feed off each other.

Yes I think my shyness has been a contributing factor to my anxiety attacks and depression. I don't have a lot of confidence in myself, like at work or school I second guess everything I do. I also moved to this town about 6 months ago and because I am so shy and have low confidence/ self esteem, it has been hard to make friends. And since it is hard to get in contact with my family and friends from back home it has been even more difficult. I can go weeks (outside work) without having a face to face conversation, which in reality is crazy. The other day since I didn't work for 5 days noticed I didn't say one word in 5 days. So yes I would say that my shyness has contributed to my anxiety and depression.

I really dont know how to talk with other people I have a severe case of depression. But most of the time. I just dont know what to say. Growing up I was extremely antisocial. I just don't hold enough experience speaking and knowing that makes me nervous and I'm quite when I'm nervous.
