Why would you be afraid to drive?

I drove 45 minutes back and forth to my first doctor's appointment today. I kept it slow and easy. I stayed in the right lane. I kept to about sixty to sixty three miles an hour.

There were a few moments of daggering pain. Banged the steering wheel; sang nonsense, cursed a bit. I made it. I do have a nice comfortable car and I ran the air on the cool side. I really concentrated on my driving and staying relaxed.

I was very happy to get home and take my first dose of antiviral, Vicoden and layer of Lidocain. The Lidocain wears off fast though. 11 pm was next allowed dosage of Vicoden. Yay! I'm waiting for it to really kick-in.

I took it at 4:30 pm and was counting the clock from 10 on. I did have a great couple hours of no pain. I don't know about driving and meds. It will depend on alertness level, I don't like driving drowsy.

I need to wind down even now. How much sense does that make?

I would sit in the car, get comfortable with it just sitting, and then take the car for a short drive. Facing this fear will help you be in control of the fear.

thanks, guyss. you see the spasms/seizures are in my head--i got hit w/the worst--trigemenial neuralgia Cranium V I am geting better slowly..I am going to wait a while...the thought of spazzzing out whether on the city/town roads or highway is too much for me to bear.
Yes, also the med--we have to be careful---you have to wait until they wear off...I am lucky lucky lucky--I walk to work and my sister gets me to all my med and supermarket fun.

I haven't honestly followed your post. But my Mum has had severe loss of the use of her right leg and foot. Thankfully, she realizes that she cannot drive with this condition. It's not the pain but the loss of utility. Hope this is not your problem! But I do pray that the debilitating pain resolves ASAP.

Mum's is not fear, just inability to use the foot to operate gas and brake.

My legs and arms and everything are fine. It is only my crazy head that worries me. I will know when I can hit the road--the way I was before this calamity. thanks for your good wishes and to your mom, too.

No single answer here. Only you know if you feel able to be in full control of your car. Act according to what YOU know.

i understand the fear issue because you don't know how it reacts. try just driving around the block, keep to less busy streets but do what you are comfortable with little steps and one day at a time.

thank so much jady--I see you are on the trigemenia group too--I do not know if I belong there--I am just so crazed.

I am feeling SO SO SO AWFUL today. I see no relief in sight. I am going on my 14th week of misery. AND NOW A RASH.

The doc said go off two meds immediately. Tomorrow I go to doc.

I don't care about anything anymore. I only care about my kitty.
