In regards to your sister and BPD, I hope that she is in therapy too. If she\'s not, she really needs to be. Remember, that her issues are hers, not yours. You have to TAKE CARE OF YOU. Stay in therapy and never give up. Even when you are feeling better or you reach a \"plateau\" in therapy, just don\'t stop. I believe that this is the only true \"medicine\" for getting things back on track.
In regards to the self injury-well, I see it as a coping mechanism. Everyone has them. Some are different than others. Most self injurers are NOT trying to commit suicide. A suicide attempt is totally different. SI is not the best coping mechanism and can definitely be dangerous. It also leaves nastly little scars and is really disturbing to the ones who love us. I don\'t condone it, but I also will be 100% honest and say that if it is done safely and it helps, than sometimes it is just gonna happen. I know I walk a thin line on this issue and I won\'t go into it in full in this community, as there is a self injury community for that. I guess in regards to SI, I just would say, don\'t let that be something you take on guilt for.
In regards to suicide: This is, as I am sure everyone has heard at least once, a permanent solution to a temporary problem. (I guess that is part of where my opionion on SI comes into play) We all know that suicide seems the only \"answer\" sometimes, we just have to ignore the temptation and focus on what IS working.
I have learned so much and have gained so much support from this site. It is THERAPY in itself, so keep posting and reading and \"talking\" to us.
