Sexual Abuse Support Group
Sexual abuse is a relative cultural term used to describe sexual relations and behavior between two or more parties which are considered criminally and/or morally offensive. Different types of sexual abuse involve: Non-consensual, forced physical sexual behavior such as rape, incest or sexual assault, or psychological forms of abuse, such as verbal sexual behavior or...
Just typing those words makes me sick to my stomach. I've read them in countless blogs. I've heard them leave the lips of people close to me. They say the words to defend their abuser or minimize the abuse.
I know firsthand the effects of verbal abuse. At the mere thought of those words, I see and feel the familiar illustrations of words leaving lips and wrapping around the victim's neck. My neck. I lived it. And I've watched the same destroy others.
But it's more than that. Now that I'm processing and facing my past. I know that it wasn't just verbal...but...he never touched me...that I can remember.
That is why those words cut deep. I don't remember. In the reality of my mind and memories "nothing happened" but in the deepest recesses of my soul...I feel all of the lasting effects of that "nothing." In my clear memories...those I know without a doubt to be true...my sexual abuse was verbal. I may have blocked out the physical but the verbal pieces that made me so physically uncomfortable...the comments that left me feeling vulnerable and violated...those have stayed with me.
But he never touched me...
If only we could make others see that not all touch is physical.

being forced to watch porn, being forced to watch the sexual abuse of others whether in person or on tv/video is still sexual abuse...
being part in pictures or video while being in underwear, nude, or swimwear can all be forms of non-touching sexual abuse...
and sadly these are only a few things of a very long list of non-touching sexual abuse...
and yes, verbal can also be sexual..
Just cause you were not touched, doesn't mean anything...
You are totally welcome to talk here.
Two things comes to mind that many victims/survivors deal with...
one being comparing, and the other is maybe each of our abuses are not exactly the same, but the thoughts, feelings, and worries are all very close to each other...
Please don't say ' well, what happened to (the other person) was much worse than me, or not as bad as I went through...
Non of us know exactly what someone endured, we do know only what was said, and how we've handled each situation.
We are here for each other, to help in how ever we can.. to listen, to ask questions, to help.
You are not alone here... non of us are...

DW - I appreciate you sharing this bit of your story. I feel a bit less alone knowing that someone else is here unsure of what they remember but knowing that what they do remember is "enough."
