Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
I understand when you say you can't get a release quite like the one you get from cutting, have you tried new coping skills compared to ones you already may know? Mindfulness is good if you're in public, acknowledging your surroundings and bringing yourself back to the moment and keeping yourself in it.
Seding hugs and prayers your way, hope you're okay.
You don't have to go to church to have a great relationship with God. I'm Religious, I have a relationship with God, I live a Faith based life, but I don't do Organized Religion anymore. I worked in the Presbyterian Church for many years, was raised a Southern Baptist but attended a Methodist church in my Adult years....and being in the "inside" of the Church Functions made me not want to be in Church anymore. There was too much judgement, too much "who was right for the church", etc.
I'm not one who hides my scars, I don't believe in it. I have battle scars, big ones, on my arms, 47 stitches at 1 time....its pretty hard not to notice them or surmise what they came from....if someone wants to talk to me about them I don't have a problem with it. If someone wants to live the hell I lived and came out the other side sane, alive, not too damaged and tell me they did it a better way, well good for them, I did it this way, it was what I knew at the time. I'm not ashamed of my scars...my father who molested me for 6 years from 8 - 13 years of age isn't ashamed to stand up at his Church and preach when he feels the need.....if a Pedofile can do that, I can be proud of my battle scars.
My point is, sometimes it's not the right time to put yourself in a place that may feel a little constraining, or have the air of judgement. I'm not saying people at your church are doing so, our brains can make us feel things. Sometimes its good not to put ourselves through more stress than we need to....going through a Therapeutic Program is hard work, you have to deal with a lot of things that can really make you want to resort to old coping skills, so limiting the stress you put on yourself is a good idea. God won't hold it against you.
Take care,
Kat
