Sciatica Support Group
Sciatica is a term meaning pain that originates from compression of the sciatic nerve, the longest and largest nerve in the body. If the sciatic nerve is pinched or compressed (perhaps by a bulging disc in the low back) a patient may experience leg pain--the classic symptom of sciatica.
Have you had an MRI yet and if so, what did it say? If you haven't had one, that what you need. You need one WITH and WITHOUT contrast material. X-rays won't tell a thing, cause they don't show the discs ~ they only show bone, and discs aren't bone.
Have you been to your doc yet? If not, make an appointment and ask for an MRI as soon as possible. Sounds like a disc is impinging your sciatic nerve to me ~ but I'm no doctor. Try ice for 20 minutes and then heat for 20 minutes several times a day if you can. It might help. Also, maybe some ibuprofen with food might help with the inflammation ~ but I wouldn't count on it. It can't hurt tho. Best of luck and let us know how you come out. Hugs, Lee
I dont have a lot of faith in the doctors here.
,ive not been to see anyone yet they are useless.
im hoping it will go away.
today wasnt as bad I thought i maybe doing ok
but i went out shopping and it really stopped me in my tracks it started hurting lots.
-i will be forced to go soon.i have had ibuprofen it seems so weak.
right now its my hip back of my lower leg
and some pain in the lower right leg.
i cant think of anything that i have done to hurt my back
but i have hurt it last year quite bad.
So again, don't put off too much longer before you see someone. Best of luck and keep us posted, ok? God bless. hugs, Lee
i had a stiff back and that was all
.i felt like my spine was numb or solid
but it was a lot better
i thought its going in reverse
but by the end of the day
i could not stand for long ,walking was hard
even if i take the weight of my leg it hurts me.
i need to see a doctor
,its wearing me down to much
and its everyday
i went to the doctors about 2 weeks ago
.it became to hard for me so had to go.
so they pushed my legs up and down and had a quick press on my spine asked a few basic questions...the top half of my body is at an angle from my legs but they didnt notice...
They said could be a back spasam traping a nerve.
said take a few pain killers,we could send you to someone but the waiting list is so long its not worth it.
so i left ,things were just as bad but more so in my hips.a few times i have been in to much pain in my hips while walking round shops and had to stop and hold on to things and pretend im ok ,then try to make it back to my car.
..i cant stand for to to long or carry anything without getting worse.
my hips hurt to much.
yesterday it was pain in my lower spine again and less hip pain..the pain moves around a lot.
.
less pains in the hips but right hiphurts
but still some problems
still weak in 1 leg
pain moves time to time from hip to my spine.
the pains seemed to reach higher in my spine this week.
i feel like my hips are twisted.
carrying anything makes it worse.
and standing for while hurts
the doctor saying its a back spasam seems stupid,
its been like this from around november 5th.
i have the odd bad day
some days i feel better but latter im proved wrong.
i still have to work.
in all being like this has changed my life.
just a few things I've done for my sciatica. First I didn't do what Leeall suggested (I didn't know of DS or Leeall then)... I ignored the sciatica because it only hurt when I was sleeping.
So go to doctors religiously. Even if the treatment is pathetic, have it documented and get a bit of help each time.
Second, is do lower back stretches. That's where my pain in the leg, hip, even foot are coming from. I can feel my back is so tight and learning the right stretches helps, please try that.
Also, I use lots of heating pads that I throw in the microwave. I used to use Ice, that was great, but was told by the PT not to do that. It can cause nerve damage. When I used the ice years ago, I didn't care about nerve damage, just the pain, and would have done anything to get rid of it. Now I'm a little smarter.
And most of all exercise. There are a few that really help me. If you want instructions for them, I'll send them to you in an email. It's basically stretching from the hip down and does help.
I take anti-inflammatories now, which I fought because of my hernia. But the anti-inflammatories start immediately and feel a difference in not just my leg and hip, but my shoulder where I have a pulled trapezius muscle.
And write in DS, that helps most to get others opinions. I know I pick everyone's brain every day and it relieves a lot of the head stress that comes with physical pain.
I have had it for years and getting worse as I age. Causing mine is what is called "spondylolisthesis" a mouthful that means I have a vertebrae slipped foward pinching my sciatic nerve off causing me the same pains that you describe.
Very active people, like athletes for instance are likely to get this condition as they put so much pounding and stress on their spine when they are young, which we pay for when we get older.
Mostly you "must" get a good doctor even if you gotta go to another country.
A simple Xray will show if you have this, or many other conditions that might cause your pain.
Mine is helped a little by a drug called Lyrica that deadens the nerve pain in my hips and legs some, but not right in the damage area.
I also have to work daily, which brings on the pain.
still aches in the hips
some pains down the backs of my legs
its feb now it started in nov
.i can feel some pain in my back
this must be the cause
when i look up or reach up
it hurts
.i tryed a new drug out here called vodorol?
its ment to be a thing you can buy for back and joint pains
it says take for no more than 3 days
.i need 3 months !
they are very weak and expensive
but help.
helps yes but not totaly pain free
just less pains
im still weak on my right leg
even though its my left leg that hurts most.
this afects my work where i use my right leg a lot.
i have had to get used to using my left because it is now stronger.
so im still stuck with it
i thought i would have been over by now
Col
.i have given up on them
no use
so ive been trying streaching
yesterday it seemed to help one leg
but today its bad again
ive tryed streatches again but no use
,i did a bit of bike work on a spinning bike
and that seems to help
