on being social

does anyone after their hospitalizations, have a difficult time developing a social network again?

I don't think I was ever really good at it - but I am finding it much more difficult to be social than I was before. I kind of shrink from people - my therapist before I went into the hospital nearly taught me to fear people.
It was such a strange time and now I just feel embarassed and ashamed a bit at my status. Sorry for the brutally honest post.

I just have to build my life up again and I know that isolation is NOT good for anyone.

The "rules" [sic] of socializing are really quite simple:

1. Show up ... say "hello"

2. Pay attention

3. Say "goodbye"

Anything more than that is merely icing on the cake.

isolation is my constant companion

I find it really difficult to socialise, I attended a wedding on Saturday and it was a nightmare from beginning to end. I just had nothing to say to anyone as I spend so much time alone, what is there to talk about? I did all the pleasantries but after that where do you go?....

It makes no difference to me whether or not if I'm just out of the hospital, it's the same all the time. I feel they are looking at me and just saying in their heads 'oddball'.

It's not a nice place to be.

thanks silentnight. I am ok with my oddballness too. I know that folks are the way they are in contrast to the way I am... I can only say that I can either rattle in my cage about it or just get as comfy as possible (and it's not always possible) about it. C'est la vie! (I am assuming -that's the only answer I have. )

im home all the time ... but dont have problems being out at all ...or being social .... i just dont expect anything from anybody... dont want anything either.... i have no need for the rest of the world... i see the good ...i see the bad... i like being alone some... i entertain myself quite nicely

I really struggle with relationships and people when I am on the depressed side. When I am manic I am a social butterfly. Trying to form a support network of primarily normal people is a true challenge. Hang in there and know I am willing to be on that support team. Hugs.
