feeling really out of sorts today. normal people can't understand us. schizophrenia is like a wound that will never heal, it's makes us depressed, and think all sorts of strange thoughts. i spend so much of time trying to keep it together and not go all psycho. i smoke, just thinking how can society put that prssure on me to quit smoking, when i full well know i will lose it without smokes, without coffee. it's like they are punishing sick people like us, i didn't ask to be what i am. i get psychotic, but it's not the madness that hurts, it's the side effects, all the fustrations, hate, anger, sadness that goes with it. alot of people say i am pretty, why don't i want a relationship, why don't i have friends, why don't i want children, etc etc, as if my looks have anything to do with my mental health. i have quit feeling suicidal and not much anxiety anymore either. but i can't help but feel like a fish out of water, feel like i don't belong in reality.

When i was in the ER February 16th 2025, i was being admitted to ICU where i was for 3 weeks, then had to relearn to walk for 3 weeks in another hospital rehab floor, the nurse told me something that made me feel for over 18 months now that i was finally *safe*. She told me that the guy who raped and beat me 21 years ago now almost 20 years at that time, was in prison as of a month before that...

Sometimes, I think I have ODD. I can be oppositional. It seems that the only times that I feel like cleaning are when I should be doing something else or I have to go somewhere. Well, not everytime but most of the time. Yesterday, I was supposed to be doing online training for work but instead, I decided to work on my kitchen table. Most of the time, I don't know where to start and give...

On the other hand you can get out of sorts when routines are broken, that happens to me a lot.
Getting back to my routine as quick as possible does seem to help me.
An outsider that comes on from time to time on the board. Just thinks we are all just very sensitive people. Some truth in that. Usually my humour helps deflect the answers on why don't i want a relationship, why don't i have friends, why don't i want children, etc etc. But being pushed that my mum wanted grandchildren did frustrate the hell out of me. My mind was on overload for weeks.
Im also an Aussie so know the struggles you face with cigarettes. I am on DSP so Ive gone to rollies. I use the smallest filter I can get and been working on cutting nicotine patches in half and still smoking. It seems to be working and have saved money. Patches are on PBS so can get scripts from your GP. Even then, youre only using half of a patches so wouldnt cost too much from the chemist.
Your profile doesnt say much. So no idea of where you are with meds and therapy? Omega-3 (fish oil) does help too.
Im in WA by the way. Welcome to the board.
Idk why rest of my post got cut off... I also said I agree with Max about routine! It helps! It doesn't have to be anyone else's--make a routine that works around You and Your interests!
ciggs are murderous to your system and it kills... everything about them is irrational... not a logical thing at all... when you smoke for years and quit ...you realize that you were only killing yourself and making excuses that its okay and defeating your free will with every drag...
build back your free will to over come simply challenges like ciggs... your a human and you have a right to love yourself better than all this crap about the rational side of cigarets
come on people you can do better than this !!!!!
easy call in my books.
Don't try to live up to society's measure or pressure. We are all different and only we know what we can and cannot handle. I can't handle friends, intimate relationships, 40-hour week job or children full-time. Knowing my limitations and honoring them is the only thing that is keeping my head above water most days.
Be who you are and don't feel guilty about that. And definitely don't apologize for who you are NOT!
As for fitting in with what I think the world wants me to be... That is a chaos of different ways to be. Even my loved ones can't seem to agree on the best way to be me.
My days seem to go easier when I stay focused on what I really am.
Whatever that is to the opiner on hand...
Puff, puff...
bizzare...
but i have been there for sure...
the other side of not killing yourself and not having to lie about it
is wonderful and really a sane thing to be...
enjoy
I have a few tips to quit. First, remember that a craving lasts about 90 seconds. That's it. If you have smoked a long time then you have probably become used to taking deep breaths only when you inhale. Sometimes a craving is really for deep air and not nicotine. So take long deep breaths and relax your body just like you are smoking. It really works. I found a homeopathic preparation with quaker button( nux vomica.) It was very helpful.
It takes about a year to stop having craving everyday. But cravings get lighter and farther apart.
Good Luck
