My husband has schizophrenia. I wont go into detail about how severe, Anyway I am writing because he believes that a demon or evil person is the reason for his suffering with voices, bad luck, ect. He believes someone put a curse on him. His exact words are often, "this evil bitch does not want me to be happy".
In a attempt to help him, I told him to get the curse reversed! He is always talking about that time we went to a fortune teller and she said she can reverse curses for $500 dollars, so I told him to go back and ask her to reverse the curse he believes is on him.
He don't think she can do it. This curse is suppose to be so powerful. I told him he got nothing to lose and he said yes he do.... $500. Is this $500 more important than your happiness? He said no. So I am confused. I told him to shop around for another fortune teller or go to a church to get it reversed (He is a big believer of Christianity) He told me that God is in him, so he can reverse it himself.
Every time I ask him to reverse it himself, so we can be happier it is some excuse.
When do I go from here?
Am I wrong for encouraging him or his thoughts by saying this even tho I do not believe it is a curse on him?

But yeah others are right--you can't reason with psychosis... where he is at there just isn't any logic anymore (though he thinks there is probably)
So sorry for what you/he are going through
I am just so curious about his thinking patterns and logic. I know I will never win a argument with him, so I do not try.
Some of the other things he say are everyone is evil. If I smile, I am evil to him. People can not laugh around him. It is bad.
I don't understand how a person can believe in evil, but not in good.
Thanks for responding all.

Curses and demons are high on his list of topics when he is in episode. I certainly would NOT EVER spend $500 encouraging his delusions. I do not have enough $500 chunks at my disposal to cover all the demons and curses in his psychotic creativity.
Whether we watch them struggling with the side effects of meds, or the untreated chaos, it is hard to watch. Bless you for standing by him, whichever way you take it.
its that simple...
and to him its become the only thing that makes sense ...
its a rational way of getting a grip on not knowing...
i would love to help your hubby out ... and i always try to take support to the next level ...
