Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
My grandma has arthritis she rubs Ben Gay on it, did you try that...to which I want to say oh I spend thousands and thousands of dollars and hundreds of doctor visits and blood tests and I only needed to rub Ben Gay on it, silly me!
My girlfriend was talking about her nephew with Crohn's disease and she let me know that RA wasn't a "real" autoimmune disase like Crohn's.
Sue
He told me, "You've been dragging this RA diagnosis out forever. Get OVER it all ready. I should know. I had cancer."
Then he called me a "medical junkie" because of all the pills I know about and all the pills I take.
I'm thrilled he won't have to deal with his cancer any more. But it's like comparing apples and giraffes.
I haven't even told anyone at work what's going on with me for fear of what they'll come up with. One co-worker told another just the other day that if she ate better and excercised more she wouldn't need her thyroid replacement meds. She told another, suffering from severe depression, that hot yoga would fix her. Oy.
My dad cured that by eliminating sugar and dairy and exercising more.
Oh, that's right, you don't like the sun!
But it's an easy bike ride!
You don't look sick.
You are so paranoid about germs!
My cousin has that much worse than you and she still does everything!
We all have aches and pains.
At least you don't cancer!
(And if it was chemo for cancer rather than chemo for RA, would you drive me to the doctor and bring me dinner then?)
If this was the case I'm sure my Rheumy would have kept that to himself so he didn't lose a patient.
Or mhhh she just want some attention
My favorites from her are:
I have that too.
If you just push your fingers back to how they should be, and work on it everyday, they will go back to normal. Apparently it has worked for her.
Just take an Aleve before you leave the house.
Just set your mind to it, and you can beat this without all of that medication that you take.
You shouldn't believe everything that the doctors tell you. Maybe there isn't really anything wrong.
My Hubby finally told her, "Mom, It's real, I live with her and I have been to her doctors appointments..."
The knowledge of the handyman
The fortitude to insist that the potato will cure all
The power of belief that says your believing yourself sick
To wish away all the aches, meds and deformities
To ignore, and know it will be gone
To have the sense to eat a proper diet
The willpower to cease faking a disease
and the brains to try positive thinking
Then we all could turn in our polite smiles
And never once again have to hear about honey
