I have been thinking about this as well. I do not sleep well, hurt while I'm lying down,and hurt when I get up again. My bed is definitely too old, at least 20 years, so its past time to replace it.

My younger sister got a memory foam mattress and she loves it. She did say that it is very firm when you first lie down and then as your body warms up the mattress, it shifts to form around you. I thought if we decided to try one that I would put an electric blanket on it to warm it up so it would be a little more comfortable initially.

A bed's such a bug investment, I want to be sure I get something that will be comfortable. I'm interested to see what everyone else says, too.

Sorry, a big investment! (Guess I was thinking in the back of my mind about the other things she told me, that memory foam does not collect dust mites, dander, and mold, also a plus in my eyes).

Last year I bought a combo mattress-- traditionall wrapped coils with various layers of different density foams, latex foam, memory foam, and topped by a 'cool' layer.

I did not like the straight memory foam as it's too hot for me. If money were no object, I would be a top end latex foam Sealy mattress.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with a Sleep Number bed from Select Comfort! My husband and I have had one for 12 years now and it is AWESOME! I give it a lot of credit for allowing me to sleep even when I'm having a hard time with the RA. I recommend them to anyone looking for a new bed. : )

My parents have a Sleep Number bed. It's a dream bed for hubby and I. I plan on buying one for us, when we finish our upstairs and have a master suite (we have a 1.5 story bungalow) . . . KING Size! If anything, because the cats fight over which one is going to be in bed with us. We currently have a double.

I admit that the Sleep Number beds are a little more expensive, but because they don't have springs or coils they last so much longer than a traditional mattress. Ours is over 11 years old and still going stong! : )

oh do we need a new bed, great idea getting feed back. I would love an adjustable bed, since I sleep with so many pillow. I've heard pros and cons on memory foam, then on another site someone said they didnt like the sleep number, but I would like to try that one

I got the memory foam 4 in mattress and it is wonderful and much cheaper than a new mattress.

Original Mattress Factory makes a Latex Mattress. I looked at getting it, but until I graduate and have a salary again . . . it's WAY out of our price range.
My parents' Sleep Number is 10 years old and still going strong. I believe they have a 20 year warranty! Another good thing is, if you get their "base" it's SO easy to move!
They do come in "adjustable" forms too. I saw this when we were price shopping . . . .

I too appreciate you getting feedback on this. My current mattress is too hard. We've been saving for a new one and had heard good things about Tempurpedic/memory foam. Didn't realize that they are HOT though! Makes sense. Thanks.

Oh yes please i dream of a new bed. When i first got this thing (RA) i would fantasize about a big soft feather bed (dont even know if such a bed is available lol) because i was in so much pain. All RA sufferers should be able to claim some kind of bed allowance so that we can at least have some comfort especially given the fact that we are still expected to function as normal as we look normal. Just dreaming of course.

if money were no object, I'd have a sleep number bed. However, reality sinks in! LOL we just bought a new serta from Menards last spring and I can't believe what a difference it was. Our old bed was so bad, the new one feels wonderful! If you can't afford a really really nice bed, get the best one you can afford. We did, and it has made a world of difference.

Well, we went to the Original Mattresss Co.and looked around. I am skeptical about the memory foam. My son has had one for 7 months and while they like it, they do admit it is warm and they have not gone through a summer yet. That being said, we went with the original with the normal but its the theraputic one with 5 inches or differnt layers of foam. It felt good, firm and not mushy yet I could feel the firm support coming through. We are having it delivered Fri. However, we are still looking as we have it set up for COD and can still adjust our purchase. We did go to the Mattress Warehouse and they have a wonderful bed gel infused on the foam which dismisses the warmth and boy was that bed nice, but almost $2,000. When we were first married and buying furniture I remember someone telling me don't skimp on your bed, you dining table or sofa. Used every day for hours and should hold up. But $2000, is a lot comes with a 30 year warranty, the bed we bought has a 20 yr. So I will look and see if gel infused can be found for any less and if not I guess we will go with the one coming Fri. After our old king here anything will be an improvement for years. I am sure the gel infused will come down but for now the latest and greatest and has the higher price tag.
