I wrote a few weeks ago about my husband's former employer (of which he retired from) cancel my medical insurance in error. We had called in on January 10th to "certify" me as a dependent as they required so I could continue to be on his medical insurance plan. My medical insurance was canceled as of January 31st, even though we had followed their procedure. After nearly 3 weeks of calling them, I have been finally told that they are not reviewing the transcript notes of the call we made back on January 10th - that we must submit an "appeals" form which will take 30-60 to resolve this issue. So for now I have no medical insurance or prescription coverage. I am waiting for the forms to come in the mail so I can fill out my dispute. I called the Enbrel patient assistance number and was directed to a website. According to the website, I would not be eligible as my income is above their limits. I will be talking to my doctor about switching to Simponi as she said she has available samples. This is all to long to go into details, but this really sucks to put in bluntly. Most of my other prescriptions I can get at a low cost thru CVS's drug prescription program. As far as blood work and doctor appointments, I will have to hold off as long as I can till I get re-instated.
if you're twitter savvy at all, tweet the hell out of it. if you have a blog, blog about it and link to it in your twitter. use hasthags like #healthinsurance, #healthcare. find your insurance company's twitter handle; if they don't have one, hashtag it. i did this and was able to get some results. most large companies have social media teams that watch stuff like that. message me for help or more info.
I wouldn't sign up for any other insurance unless you intend to stay on it. Otherwise, it will add some other level of complication to the situation.
Calling your senator is an excellent office. When my state fouled up my Obamacare application beyond belief, one email to my senator's office got things going. Maybe also contact one of NY's senators, if that's where the company is based.
