I've always had good nails. I don't let them get real long, but I've never had much of a problem with them breaking off. I never do anything with them, like a manicure or anything. I use them all the time and it would be a waste of time/money to have my nails "done".
The last few weeks it seems I'm breaking them on a daily basis. Not just the long ones breaking, but the short ones, and breaking into the quick.
I'm taking 1 mg of Folic Acid, so maybe it's not enough? I plan on asking at my next office visit after the first of the year.
i take folic acid and mtx. i find my nails are growing faster, but are more brittle. they're breaking more often. damn it.
gaitless, you may want to add biotin to your daily regimen. or up your folic acid if the dr okay's it.
I've also noticed my hair starting to fall out again. It was really bad before the mtx and improved greatly when I started the Folic Acid.
I'll check into the biotin. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I've given it to my horses for years!
A hair and nail supplement OTC from Health food shops or Pharmacies can help a lot.as can painting your nails with a nail strengthener, OTC at Pharmacies..
But I have another question, I know it has been posted before but I can't find it. How does the MTX effect you. My dr warned me I might not feel very well after my 15mg dose a week. I haven't really noticed anything significant yet. How does it effect you?
I do my injections Friday after work and I get quite tired and have dizziness, and I find my voice gets hoarse, but by Saturday morning I'm pretty much back to normal again. Some slight dizzy periods but it's minor.
Stick with it. Hopefully your body will adjust too and the side effects will lessen each week.
Good luck!
