Another thing you might try is going to a bike store, and getting set up better. You might be able to raise the handle bars, change grips, etc, so that your hands are not taking so much weight and effort on them.
I hope you find some ways to hold the handle bars that work for you. Riding a bike is the best exercise possible for me, as my feet are too damaged to even walk, but with modified ways to pedal, it has kept me in shape for years.
One thing is all that bumping should be good to keep knocking the calcium in place in your bones. Bicycle riding can do that too, but not the way I ride, on the paved streets! LOL
