No crisis, no damaging or triggering conflicts--this is for individuals who want to contribute to collective, cooperative action toward the goal of making actual PROGRESS through rape trauma. Much of this work is based on the book "Resurrection After...
I'm loyal, I know a lot of people, but only a few are taken into my heart and soul as my friend and I am loyal to the end. I'm extremely trustworthy and value and cherish the trust that my family and friends have in me.
I love people, I want to help anyone who needs my help in whatever way I'm able to.
I have had not just with myself but with family and friends experienced extreme tragedy, but with that, came my extreme compassion for humans.
The love I have inside me is infinite. I'm understanding and non judgmental.
When a friend is sick or down or depressed ( or happy and sharing with me a joyous time in their life) I love to make care packages for them, I like to think of the little things, the small details that makes a friend smile.
I don't do this thinking I'll get something in return I do it because if you watch carefully, you'll see on your friends face a look that only you see and understand, and that look says 'I'm blessed just to have you in my life and to be able to call you a friend is a divine privledge.' That makes my heart swell with happiness.
I will (and have) make a complete a** out of myself just to make another person comfortable after they have had an embarrassing, upsetting, or mortifying moment.
I still send handwritten thank you notes.
I always tell my parents "I love you" before leaving their home or when hanging up the phone.
I tell my friends I love them too.
Matt, thank you for putting this thread in here, we are so hard on ourselves about "what's wrong" with us and we talk so much about sadness and "loss of oneself", we all need this.
I love you all.
Someone else needs to post about themselves *Please*
Matt, I have the right idea of what you are asking for in this thread, don't I???
I am extemely talented, I write poetry, I decorate wedding cakes, I scrapbook and make one of a kind "works of art" greeting cards I paint and I have a detailed eye for decorating.
I'm also an extremely loving and experienced nanny, or 'au pair' I did it for years and loved every second of it.
(I think I'm done now, this was really hard to do and I needed to get input from others that know me well)
I often put others before me, sometimes even strangers.
I stopped on the side of I-40 in North Carolina to help a woman who had slid off the interstate and into the trees below. She was screaming and I thought she may have been injured. I pulled over to the shoulder and ran down to her. She was okay, just shook up. A minute later, an idiot not paying attention, took out my car with his land yacht. I could only afford liability then so I was not reimbursed when the driver's insurance company (surprisingly - sarcasm alert) took his side on the accident.
A few years before that, I agreed to share a motel room with a woman who was about 30 miles from home when I was too inebriated to drive. That was a really bad night for me, which is why I'm here in this group. My compassion cost me a lot that night. I'm still paying that bill.
I don't regret either decision to care for another's safety. I regret the loss of my car on that road and I cannot express in words how much I regret being raped in that motel room.
I will never regret my compassion and caring for those women in need. Well, one was in need, the other a predator.
Still, this is who I am.
me,
i try, i keep trying, i don't give up, complete all my 'homework' no matter the challenge, i usually know when to back off and take a break, but i put my trekking shoes on and pick myself up again and keep going, no matter how many times i feel like running or hiding, i fight it and keep working on my journey.
I carve/whittle, i put my whole self into it and give it my best................then i give them away(with a bit of 'me') when i feel a piece suits a certain person.
theres others, but thats enough for me.
post, post, ok just do it......aghhh
I have a fierce love for my family. I place them above everything else in my life. I believe my best moments on this planet are the times when I fell in love with my husband, and when I gave birth to our only child.
I have allowed certain life experiences to shape me into a more caring person and an advocate. My son has a genetic disorder that is not detectable just by looking at him, but it causes social awkwardness and learning disabilities. Before he was diagnosed, I worked very hard with him, to help him learn. When he entered school, I fought the school system to make positive changes for borderline students. I was recognized for my efforts and was named a Parent-Teacher Liason in the county in which I live. I was flown to other parts of the state to operate workshops and encourage other parents. My county re-evaluated their standards for learning disabled students and now bases it on the individual child's performance, not a number on a test. I am proud of that.
I use the negatives in my life in a positive way. I know many of the traits I posess are there because of my life experiences, they are things that were necessary to make it through a bad time. They actually might be considered emotional faults. But, I use them to make me better at what I do, and at what I enjoy. So, this is me making the best of a bad situation I suppose. I am very organized (obsessed), and detail oriented (perfectionistic). That helps make me a good nurse.
I look good on a resume, but, those same attributes make for a Type A personality, so, maybe they don't go on this list. But, I like being good at what I do, even the small stuff.
I'm a good cook.
I can sing and have a deep appreciation for music - lots of different music.
I am a careful shopper and a bargain hunter.
I can sew well.
I have a green thumb outdoors...I can kill a house plant in record time.
I can paint walls, lay down floors, draw house plans, and use a nail gun, all of which I did when we designed and physically built our own home. In the same day, I can do delicate beadwork, sketch my grandson, and really enjoy a great piece of literature.
I am humorous and enjoy making people laugh.
I think deeply, and I love deeply. I believe in the value of friendship and in caring for others in need. I don't believe it is enough to see that a need exists and hope it gets better, or is taken care of. I believe in acting in order to make sure it is.
To sum this list up, I believe I am worthy of my dog's love and admiration...at least I try to be. :)
I have faith. I have faith in my fellow man (most of them), and in myself...yes, I DO think I have faith in myself, even when I am in a pit, I believe it isn't the end of 'it all', just a place I must be 'for a time'...so, I think I just convinced myself that I truly do have faith in me. And, I have faith in God. He loves me, and I know, even in my darkest times on this earth, He always did.
I am dedicated to the things I spend my time doing, and, I like the things I get involved in. I choose carefully the things I pour myself into. This next week I will combine exercise and giving..by walking in a relay for life.
I am loyal. I do what I say I will do. I don't commit easily, but once I do, I'm there.
I fight this darkness in my life, everyday. I believe it is winable - this fight against our pasts, our pain. I have commited to live, despite the pain...so, here I am.
I love fiercely. I love my family, and my friends...and I believe in each of you.
I look for ways to defeat the sadness in my life, so....I have spent hours looking through these old posts here in RAR, and I found this one, and I read it, and I read it again...and again, and, I wish to purge the darkness that has enveloped me these past several days. I think that is a good thing to list here too.
I hope you'll all join me in this...re-post your positives here - please. I need to read them. You need to read them. We need to saturate ourselves in the good that is 'us'.
I am a kickass actress! lol In fact the director of footloose called me BEGGING me to be in his show because his main girl took a tumble, he knows I can do it, I learn quickly despite not reading extremely well. And so I always steal the show :) lol All eyes gotta be on me!
Honestly, I have a very outward personality. Though maybe it's not seen here, if you were to ask people to describe me you'd probably get something like "Oh Kardy? She's..loud, funny...crazy, sparkly, etc etc"
I work REALLY hard, once I make my mind up, come hell or highwater IT WILL BE DONE. Every play I have ever worked, I have given it 203873431267367456489132475284893487613949% always, I am not a half-ass kinda chick NO CHANCE. And In fact I have made my mind up to recover from this rape, so....bring on the hell and highwater I suppose lol.
And I think...in a small sense, I am much like my brother. The greatest compliment I could ever receive is for someone to say "You know, YOU ARE JUST LIKE DRACKEN!"
Since he was my last living blood relative and he is gone now, I suppose its up to me to keep him 'alive' in a sense. Thats kinda cool..
