Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.

Hello my 39-year-old son had his kidney removed two months ago.  He didn't have extensive test afterwords to see if they got it all because he has crappy state-funded insurance.  Hes still feeling pretty lousy and can't understand why he still has a lot of pain in the area where the kidney isn't anymore so they took him in and they just did a colonoscopy and an upper scope in his intestines. They removed polyps and did some other test but now his insurance won't cover his gastro doctor anymore so he,s waiting to find another doctor.  His oncologist has ordered another CAT scan but it hasn't been approved by his insurance so he's really depressed. I want to pretend he's absolutely fine but this whole waiting is making me crazy. Is it normal to still be in pain or to have brand-new pain after having a kidney removed and this waiting for answers is making us crazy.

Hi, welcome. Not knowing what is going on with your son must be driving you nuts! If you tell me ONLY what state you live in, I'll try to find some information for you about health care costs/help. Is your son on SS disability? If not, I'd apply now...it take a good amount of time to be approved. If you call your son's hospital/doctors there may be funding. Hospitals usually have a 'bed fund' for people with no health insurance. Doctors most often are given medication and your son can ask if they have "sample medications" due to his financial concerns. I sincerely wish you freedom from the stress and your dear son, freedom from his pain. I usually check this site at least once a day, so you are not alone...it is not very active, at the moment, two other gals post...one going through cancer now, and the other gal, it's her dad. I had a left radical nephrectomy in 2014. Thank God there were no complications! Grateful for each day of my health from cancer...it's a bitch! Take care, ML

Hi so , good to hear from you. We live In florida. My daily life is now trying to be optimistic for him. I do t know if he still has cancer or if it's gone or if the pain is residual. How was your pain. After your surgery. How are you being now are you working? In his mind he believes he has it somewhere else. I can't counsel him. I don't know what he feels like. My pain is mom pain and I do t want him to see that in me. I wAnt him to choose life every day. What the heck can I say to him. Yes he just apied for ss/disability. He is not working now and is almost broke. I'm not wealthy. WhAt should I do?? Thanks for listening.

Hi...I'll get back to you with some info on Tuesday...stay strong and take care of YOU. Be gentle with yourself, Mom pain is a Choice. Lived so long with it until I Finally Got my son will do what he wants! No Matter What I Do or Say,,,,he will do what he wants....No More Helicopter Mom~

Njoneso623 - I've been a member for quite some time on Daily Strength and have been looking through the support group for RCC members and came across your post. I've read everything and was curious as to whether or not you were able to get help for your son. I can only imagine having a child go through something like this. Last post was in Sept,.of 2016. If you have a moment let me know how you and your son are doing.

Hi Andrea. We had a good holiday but my son's health is on hold. He has not been approved ed for further testing and his dr said there seems to be an issue with his adrenal gland. he has no energy and his testosterone level is very low. He is depressed and having dizzy spells. I try to help when needed but he keeps me in the dark to keep me from worry. haha. I am going to send him this site. It sure helps to know someone is listening. Thank you.
