Here's one of my favorites ... had it on my bulletin board when I was about twelve or so:

I guess it might seem like a downer, but somehow I find it incredibly comforting that even Mr. Lincoln had no idea what to do sometimes. It is good to know it isn't just me.
When I needed a kick in the ass after my PE, it was that great line from Shawshank Redemption: "Get busy living or get busy dying."
There's also the expression that I've heard said a couple of different ways, but basically, it's "the only way out of it is through it." That one is personally, really empowering to me, that you have to sometimes go through stuff to come out the other side.
The one concept that I rely on most when I'm troubled by anything, or fighting something is credited to Rainer Maria Rilke: "Let life happen to you. Believe me: life is in the right, always." When I rely on that concept, everything seems to make sense to me.
Fear, anxiety, obsession, panic etc is sometimes not easy to overcome and it takes more than a quote. I mean, if most people could just change it easily, they would. But I do think reflecting on the wise words of others can help you see things from a different point of view for sure. I find that good lyrics in songs do the same thing for me. A while ago I was listening to the Black Crowes, a band I've been listening to forever, and a lyric jumped out at me as if I'd heard it for the first time: "I've been down but never on my knees." I thought, YES.
It's very gratifying to be uplifted by the power of words.

Well, it wasn't quite true (grin) since I've been the recipient of two serious illness/conditions. But it did help me get through what came AFTER I became ill.
And like you Cave this is my 2nd serious illness/health issue to overcome but the first time round i needed some good quotes i reckon cos i struggled!!

I found myself actually laughing out loud in the hospital ED whilst considering whether to have the potentially deadly altoplase treatment to dissolve the clot - i needed to use the toilet and was given a commode to use and with that many cables, and drips attached it was a challenge just to get on the thing so much so that I LAUGHED a big belly laugh that had the nurse poking her head back through the curtains to make sure i was okay. I think that stress relief helped me decide to agree to the lifesaving treatment:)
I get bad gag reflexes sometimes because of sinus stuff running down my throat. Happened last night and not only did my dinner come up, but I wound up giving myself REALLY horrible petuchae all over my face. I'm really fair and it looks like I've got some sort of horrible disease and a bad sunburn combined. It's good thing I work at home!
Really, the only thing to do about it was laugh. My husband and I were cracking up last night and this morning just cause I look so weird. Sometimes, it is really your only option. And always, it is probably the best option...
