Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I was in my early 40s when I had my PE and went off the pill at that time. The weight started piling on. Think it's a combination of the hormonal changes, metabolism and having not been as active as I had been for the first few months post PE diagnosis. It got better as time went on. I would make sure you're not cutting out healthy foods simply because you're on warfarin which some people do thinking they have to avoid veg because they're now on warfarin.
On the plus side my migraines have basically gone away entirely. I was getting them a lot, and bad. To the point I could do nothing but lie in bed for a couple of hours when they were at their worst. I've had two since being diagnosed--one the night I went into the hospital with my PE, and another a couple of months later when I thought I had another.

I'm a lifer----- and have resisted the new anti-coags (due to just one of their problems---no easy/quick way to stop bleeding).
But do we really know that the fatigue and other horrible symptoms that comes with warfarin usage will be avoided with them? (That's addressed to the gen pop here, not you, since you're off warfarin, done and dusted.)
" if those side effects did exist with both meds, I would probably resort to warfarin."
I would too, probably will too. I always prefer older meds because most of the warts on their noses have already shown up. And they weren't fast-tracked through the systems as quickly as some of the newer meds are.
I am having migraines but I don't know if it's from Warfarin or being off birth control for the first time in many years.
I have gained 20 lbs in a month. I went from size 6 to size 10 in 1 month. :o(
I am tired, my body hurts all over, and my brain is foggy but I don't know if it's from the meds or having just had a heart attack and saddle Pulmonary embolism a month a go.
My period is worse for sure.
Also about the alternate drug. Yes it is known to have less side affects and less problems however.... The 1 huge downside of the new drug is that you can not undo the coagulation effects fast. On warfarin if there is an emergency (like you need surgery or are hemorrhaging) they can give you Vitamin K and coagulate your blood fast in an emergency. They can't do this on the new drug so you better hope you don't need an emergency surgery while on it.
