By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Waiting for test results

I'm wondering what happens next .The consultant has booked me in for numerous tests including vq scan .Gas exchange is poor so I have reduced lung function along with Mctd and bronchiectasis .i have had a number of chest infections and shortness of breath and pain in my left side back ribs .NOw I am coughing up small amounts,of blood .The latter I did not have when I saw him.I saw the doctor whom gave me prednisolone which helped with the breathing and antibiotics. Still three weeks later I still have the rib pain and when I have bad coughing blood stained mucous .MY apt is not for another nine days.

Was the vq scan to rule out a pulmonary embolism? I'm assuming if you had a PE, they would have notified you right away.

Same as rmb's question. Do you have a known pulmonary embolism? Or are you being tested for one? If you had a PE, they should've let you know ASAP, since treatment needs to start immediately.

Otherwise, there are other things that can cause the symptoms you describe. Pneumonia comes to mind.

If you're really concerned, call your doctor and ask to come in sooner. If they don't have an appointment available, ask to be put on the waiting list.

Thanksf for the replies ,I'm being tested for one but since they did not call me back straight away I am guessing it wasn't a pe so I'm wondering what this is then if the consultant thought it might be blood clots and it isn't .

I called the consultant got to speak to his secretary voiced my concerns, she said he would call me back.No call back that is the Nhs for you. I'm probably just panicking trying to piece things together .GUess the tenth I not that far away .AGain thanks for the replies

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
