Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has experienced Vertigo Post PE. I had my PE back in November 2008 and came off warfarin after 13 months and am now on baby aspirin. I'm generally SO much better, so take heart those of you who may only recently have had your incident. It takes time but you'll get there!
However for the past 4 weeks or more I've had vertigo. 2 trips to the doctor, he's said I have most probably a viral inner ear infection and prescribed Serc and Stemetil. I'm also booked in for physio next week as he said whilst the drugs would mask the symptoms they may not resolve it.
Just wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms? Any advise? (he also said if the physio & drugs don't sort it out that he would possibly book me in for an MRI)
Thanks!

Now that I am not talking to my whatever best friend, I realized that her life is full of drama. I had grown tired of hearing her stories about her boyfriend many months ago. She basically had been monopolizing conversations for that long too. She pretty much stopped asking me questions about me. I passed her in front of her classroom the other day and didn't even look at her. I am...

Just had an interesting conversation with ChatGPT! It was kind of like talking kindly to myself. You should get the App. It's free.
Also, I've had a ton of ear infections, lots of them inner ear, which tends to make me dizzy/queasy/sick too. Seems like I do antibiotics a couple times a year to head them off. For me, these are caused by sinus issues and have nothing to do with my clots or anything else blood related. You might consider checking in with an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist if your doc doesn't come up with something and/or your symptoms don't start to resolve themselves.
Best wishes!
Do you get migraines? I work with a women who has had migraine issues her whole adult life. She is now getting vertigo as well and her doc told her that they're related, and if you have a history of migraines, you can start to get vertigo even if it doesn't proceed or precede a migraine.
Also, being dehydrated can cause vertigo as well.
Thanks for your replies - both make lots of sense! Definitely have an issue with my sinuses so might be worth talking to ENT specialist if physio doesn't sort things out.
Also I am prone to migraines, although not really having them at the minute - that said, when I read up about the stemetil it apparently is sometimes used to treat migraines!!
Appreciate you taking the time!
Mind yourselves..
No-one could offer any explanation - maybe it would stop when i came off warfarin, got stronger etc etc.Maybe it was benign positional vertigo. It didn''t stop. I've had mri scans, hearing and balance tests - but 2 and a half years on, its still the same. I had balance exercises, but they just made it worse over a period of 6 months, so I stopped doing them - you cannot live your life having to lie flat on the floor when you have a job etc.
As I have got stronger, it doesn't seem so bad. I think I am just not feeling so fragile, and am better able to cope. The bpv pills which dissolve under your bottom lip are good for the nausea if it gets too bad.
Not sure if this is helful, but it is just part of me now - occasionally will loose my balance and fall in dirty laundry basket to the amusement of my daughter (and myself). I do not go on rollercoasters. I am careful to pace myself as it is worse when i am tired - not always easy when you work in hospitality. otherwise I am just careful
Thanks for your post - I too had my PE after a too tight a cast after breaking my ankle. I was also working in hospitality when I had the PE but was made redundant and have moved into retail.
My the vertigo only really started about 6 weeks ago. Sounds like you've really had a difficult time! Glad to hear you're not feeling so fragile - it's certainly true your mind can have a huge impact on how you are feeling.
Since I put up my post my vertigo has got a lot better - not sure if it's the Serc, Stemetil or if it's just got better on it's own!
Thanks for the reassurance - hope you keep well..
I had massive PEs and was thrombolised. Ever since that period in my life I get a massive adrenaline rush just from watching a high up shot on TV. It isn't debilitating or anything but it is very apparent and I have never felt anything like it before.
My PE was 2 1/2 years ago so could it be bacteria?
Thanks for this post. I thought I was going mad!!
Yep, we certainly get odd sypmtoms! I had my session with vestibular physiotherapist yesterday. She reckons that its related to Migraine - so RMB looks like you had it sussed!
Keep well!
Coincidentally, the woman I work with who has the migraines and then the vertigo also had a PE a few years back, about 6 months before I did. She sits right across from me. Freakin' weird.
Must train my sub-concious to fight back!
RMB - that is very interesting about the dehydration, as, when I was admitted to hospital they had never seen anyone so dehydrated. I do try to stick to my 2 Litres of water a day but it is so difficult, especially when the weather is cold.
Also re: dehydration, I have long stretches of being so good about 2 quarts of water daily, then I go off on a tangent of not even thinking about it and making matters worse by drinking coffee or cocktails - both very dehydrating. I have always struggled with drinking water when I don't feel thirst though.
