Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Happy new year to all on the board and I hope 2016 will give everyone affected by a pulmonary embolism better health and peace of mind!
My 17 year old will be having surgery on Monday to remove her first rib to relieve a compression of a subclavian vein between the rib and her collarbone. This is called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and was the cause of a bilateral pulmonary embolism with infarct this last August.
TOS has become more prominent with Tamar Braxton suffering from same and having to withdraw from dancing with the stars in November.
I wanted to share because some may find these same symptoms to be consistent with what they are going through. We have found that most doctors are not familiar with this and it was only with us pressing our hematologists did they perform a MRI of her upper chest to find the issue.
This is the first of two surgeries my daughter will have as she is even more uncommon to have TOS on both right and left sides.
