Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Tonight at 6pm when my cell phone alarm goes off I will not be taking my dose of warfarin. I met with my pulmonologist today, and he says I'm ready to go off the warfarin and in 2-3 weeks start the genetic testing along with an ultra sound of my legs. I am so excited and so very scared.
Today marks 6 months since the most frightening day of my life when I was asked by the docs in the ER, "Do you know any reason why you would have blood clots in both of your lungs, have you taken a long trip lately?, do you smoke?, do you take birth control pills?" I had been prescribed birth control pills 5 weeks earlier in an attempt to shrink a large ovarian cyst.
It has been the longest summer of my life. God has put amazing people in my life to help me through all of this and that includes all of you in this support group.
As I travel through the next season of this experience I am going to just hold on to faith, and know that after all I've been through already I can get through just about anything.
