Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Think I took an extra dose of coumadin

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and I thought to myself that I hadn't taken my Coumadin... I couldn't remember taking it, so I was quite sure I hadn't so I took my normal Tuesday dose, 12mg...Now, this morning, I am 2nd guessing myself as to whether nor not I had taken it before I went to bed...I would count the pills, but I have a strange schedule (9 mg MWF, 12mg T,H, Sat, Sun), and to top that off, when I got my new prescription I still had a couple doses left on my old and dumped the pills in the new bottle.

I am supposed to keep between 2 and 3 on INR, and the last several times I have been around 1.9 to 2.3....

My next doctor's appointment for INR check is 8/15.. should I go in early and have it checked?... Now I have myself worried.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

I'd check with your doc to see how he suggests handling that, but I assume if you think you took two dosages, he'd probably tell you to hold tonight's dosage. But just ask him to be sure.

Get a weekly pill box. Seriously, it's easier to track what you've taken or not taken.

Thanks RMB, yeah, I have the weekly box, and I was using it at first, but then they started changing me up on dosages and it just was becoming a hassle because I would have it pre-loaded, and then my instructions would change and I would have to re-load it...I will start again though...

You don't think I should be worried too much about bleeding risk from the one extra dose right now do you?

I rarely worry about bleeding risks so I may no be the right person to ask. I think my doc worries about it more than I do actually. I really don't think it'll cause a bleeding issue for you though considering your INR has been on the lower side of therapeutic, but I still think you need to consult with your doc.

Yeah, the pill box has saved my butt many a time. I just make it a habit that on Sunday nights, I fill the box for the week. I usually test my INRs on Mondays, but I still fill the box for that week and just adjust the pills as needed once I get my results. It's worth the hassle. Otherwise, I'd forget what I'm doing all the time.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
