By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Swimming

Anyone tried swimming after your PE? I read it can increase lung capacity, so I'm willing to give it a try. I am worried about the chlorine bothering my lungs though.

For those who did how did you start out? Did the chlorine bother you? Do you feel it helped with recovery?

The only time chemicals bothered my breathing was when they were sprayed from a spray bottle or can, like Lysol or bleach when cleaning the bathroom .

I did some swimming (not a lot and not regularly) and I didn't really notice that the chlorine bothered me.

I think it's a great way to exercise.

My first swim post PE was at my parents' pool in Florida over Christmas. It's outdoor so the chemicals weren't an issue at all. I did swim underwater and it felt so good to test my lungs that way! I love that feeling of just sort of hanging under the water with no sound and being just weightless.

Now I've started back at water aerobics at our local YMCA. Indoor and plenty of chlorine. I do not submerge my head in these classes but the chlorine smell is definitely noticeable. One time it burned my eyes, it was so strong but usually it just burns into my nose a bit, no lung issues.

My pulmonologist actually encouraged me to swim, but I didn't since I don't like it.
I think it's a great sport to get a good conditioning.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
