Did they check your INR? What was it?

They did. It was 2.1 which is pretty much what my reading has been while I have been taking warfarin

Maybe they're thinking by the time 2 weeks is here, all the warfarin will then be out of your system. Or if they kept you on it for another two weeks what would it really do. Not sure. You could call your doc or the clinic and ask why.

I knew I would only be on it for 6 months. They said that I could stop taking it today to save me going back in a fortnight.

I just don't really know how to stop stressing myself out, worrying about it happening again. Because they don't know the cause of my PE they say it is more likely to happen again, which scares the life out of me

I get it. You'd feel that way whether you come off now or in two weeks, I suspect. I think the best way to deal sometimes is to just completely distract yourself for a while, so you're not thinking about it all the time. It gets easier the longer you're off of it.

Yes whenever I came off it I was going to worry, this morning before my appointment I was telling myself everything would be fin, I had 2 more weeks to get use to the idea.
Sound really stupid but I am worried about going to bed tonight after the number of Dr's that have said to me I was really lucky that I woke up, when it happened

Try to do things that really help you relax, particularly before bed. I have had such terrible anxiety before and usually it strikes at night. I also think, get yourself dead tired before going to bed so you'll be asleep before you know it. Just try little tricks to mellow yourself out.

It will take time. I completely freaked out when I came off warfarin. I've been off now for longer than I was on, so things have gotten easier. The first month or so were the worst. The first few days I was ok because I new I still had a little in my system, but after that I kind of fell apart for a while while I was waiting for my bloodwork to be done. I think it helped a little that all the bloodwork came back negative, but it didn't put me at ease the way I had hoped! The further out I am from my clots, warfarin, etc. the more confident I am that this may have been a one-time event. Of course I know it has happened before, and could happen again, so I'm extra cautious about staying hydrated, touching base with my doctor if things don't feel right, etc. I also take an omega supplement, which may or may not help, but at least it makes me feel like I'm doing something. I felt SOOO much better physically off the warfarin. No more dizziness, much less fatigue, no more handfuls of hair in the shower! It will get easier, it just takes a while!

Thanks both. One thing I am looking forward to is not leaving clumps of hair everywhere I go. It was very strange not taking my tablets when the alarm went off, but hopefully I will get use to it quickly & try not to dwell on things x

I am in the same boat you are. I go off the end of this week and am definitely stressing about it. I get all my tests done on the 11th of March. I'm not sure how I am going to react to going off of the warfarin because I feel like I am in a good place emotionally right now. I finally have come to terms with my PE and everything. You have to come off it sometime I guess but I definitely feel the anxiety of it. I will send good vibes your way!

BackyardTalent, if you're in a good place emotionally, you will probably be completely fine coming off warfarin. I was definately NOT in a good place emotionally and had definately not come to terms with my PEs yet (I'm still working on that!). If I managed to emotionally survive coming off warfarin, anyone can do it!! Anxiety is just part of the process. :(

@BackyardTalent, I have not come to terms with my PE at all (I have sold the clothes I was wearing at a wedding the day it happened & I can't look at any of my friends wedding pics), however I have been off Warfarin for nearly a week now and I feel GREAT! The first few days i didn't get much sleep, but now I a so pleased that I have some freedom back, I don't have to check the clock to see if it is coming up to medication time & I can eat a bowl of grees and not worry about it.

The support on this site has really helped me get through my recovery process. Knowing all of you have been through similar experiences as me and are still kicking is amazing. That a little help from Prozac does wonders! :) I go off tomorrow so I will update in a few days on how I am feeling but from what everyone else is saying, sounds like I will feel normal for once! I am also excited about being able to eat salads without thinking about it.

I am in the uk so I won't get any testing, but that is fine. I didn't realise how miserable being on warfarin was making me. I have had a major change in my mood and mental attitude since coming off it. I am no longer someone who nearly died because of a PE, I am now someone who had a PE but is still here, which is amazing

I'm too scared To come off of warfarin. I asked my doctor if he could guarantee PE would not occur again and he said no. I was a long distance truck driver, which instigated my PE. I've been on it for two years. He has to renew clinic evaluation every six months, but I'm still alive!
