By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Yesterday i participated in a MS fundraiser. I climbed the 1096 steps of Perth's tallest building. That's 52 flights of stairs. I am only 6 weeks post massive bilateral PE and can't believe I actually made it. It's a credit to the medical team at Fremantle Hospital that saved my life!

Wow!!! Congrats!!! I'm 3 months out and am not even brave enough to try the 6 flights of stairs to my therapists office!

Yay!! That's an absolute amazing feat! I can just imagine how that can boost your esteem while conquiring your PE recovery! Reading your post just gave me strength and hope on a weekend where I feel like the PE is defeating me rather than the other way around. Thank you for such a wonderful enlightening post today!

That's great news!! Not just a credit to the medical team though...it's a credit to your strength and determination..only 6 weeks out?..you are one tough lady :) Well done!!

Yeah Richeal - i think that IS what I took away from my PE experience - I am one tough lady! I just have to keep living up to that strength now:) But reaching this goal and the ones before it gave me so much confidence in myself and that is what I hope others can be inspired to do, just set your own goals to suit your specific needs and get delight from achieving them or working towards them.

I would NEVER have done that at 6 weeks.

I've got a 5K coming up just less than five months from my diagnosis - I'm just hoping I can do that and still get to work the next morning!

Confidence... I think that's a big part of what happens to many of us after a PE- we don't feel confident in our bodies and our abilities and in our thought processes after a PE. That's why I think it's so much better to try to do stuff, even small stuff, sooner rather than later.

I love hearing stories like this. I remember going to the gym for the first time a couple of weeks after the PE. It scared the crap out of me, but I got on the elliptical machine for 15 minutes. That was my goal, just a slow and steady 15 minutes. It did not kill me. Small accomplished goals lead to confidence and bigger goals.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
