By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Shoulder pain

has anyone had any bad shoulder pain ? I'm a month out out from having A PE and I woke up this morning with really bad pain in my left shoulder - I would say a 7 out of 10. It lasted for an hour and a half. I took Tylenol. Now it's gone - like it just magically disappeared. Anyone have this experience? Is it nerves picking up the pain from the lung since there are no nerves there? My left side was more affected then the right..

Not my shoulder specifically, but generally I had upper right back pain that sort of radiated over my shoulder to my chest. Both my lungs had large clots, but the right lung really was pretty much nothing but clot so I assume it was from damage, the infarction or from healing. Who knows. But I had that pain on and of for several months. Lot of people have more pain during recovery than prior to diagnosis. I had a bit of pain a few days after diagnosis but the majority of pain was one home.

I had shoulder pain just prior to going to the ER and have had some from time to time during recovery, but I wouldn't say at a 7 out of 10.

Yeah, I wouldn't say 7 out of 10 either, at least not prolonged, like at an hour or so. But maybe my 7 is different from your 7, know what I mean?

My pain was sharp jolt, particularly if I took a breath, and then it would just be more of a nagging, achy feeling after the initial jolt.

It actually went away and hasn't come back - I took precautionary measures and went to a different ER and spoke with some really amazing doctors.
I haven't been having too much discomfort/pain the last two days and feeling really positive about that. I also had more tests done which all came back pretty good - there is a small infarction on the lower left part of my lung which could be radiating pain up the diaphragm and causing shoulder pain. But I feel really good and am hopeful this week to get walking on the treadmill again.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
