Hi, I've not experienced this. I'd just make sure it's not related to something else like low vitamin d, or something like that. Also, I started perimrnopause in my early 40s and my body feels like it belongs to someone else sometimes. I think sometimes it's not the meds alone but a combination of things. Of course, it could truly just be the meds and if that's the case, not sure what you can do about that except change the meds.

Have you been working with your docto try to manage the pain? Sucks to feel like your body is betraying you.

Hello to you too... It appears you are not the only one to experience hip pain. There have been a few times that I have experience pain in my hips . These episodes did not seem to have any reason for this pain, and I did not think about warfarin being the culprit. Each time this has happened the pain lasted all day lessening into the second. I was fine when I sat down (no pain), just when I was walking. I could only walk very short distances before it seemed a better idea to just go sit down. When this happens both hips experience the same amount of pain. Being a lifer on warfarin for 13 years, I never even thought that this drug could be the reason for the pain but appears it could be so. Warfarin has been my drug for all of my 13 post clot years. I have never tried Coumadin before. They are supposed to be identical, but are they really? Please keep us posted if Coumadin continues to help you, or not. Hope it does! They are same in terms of their function (how they prevent blood clots), but generic drugs and brand drugs can be different in the way they are made, ie the dyes used, the binders used, etc, and that appears to be an issue for some people.

For me personally, I don't assume pain or anything like that is purely medication related unless it's obvious the side effects stop completely when I stop the medication. If stopping medication is not an option, then I'd first check to see if something else is going on in my body that would cause it and if not, then deduce it's medication related.

I'm not saying there aren't possible side effects, AT ALL. I know the whole side effect thing is a sensitive issue. I do believe some people experience adverse side effects from warfarin (or any kind of drug really). I'm just saying don't dismiss something as a side effect before making sure it's not related to something else.

Hello Tian71...I too suffered from severe joint pain when I was on blood thinners (Warfarin and Xarelto). Just like you, it was hard for me to get up after sitting and lying down because the pain was so excruciating. Once I was able to discontinue those meds...within a week the pain was gone. My advice would be to talk to your doctor about the pain and see if there is anything they can give you to reduce or eliminate it. Unfortunately, I did not relate the pain to the medication until I discontinued the use of the meds. I really hope you find relief, because I can relate to how you must be feeling. Thank you everyone for you replies! After my first round with Coumadin/warfarin I started having pain two weeks after taking it. I thought it was from my complete hysto...no hormones. However the pain stopped shortly after stopping the Coumadin. Then after my second round of PE's and two weeks after starting the dose the pain started again. I have just realized that my INR is usually around 2.5 - 3.0. A few weeks ago I dropped down to 1.7 - 2.3. I noticed that I am not in as much pain with my hips. My hubby thinks it could be a blood flow issue? I haven't talked to my Doctor about it yet other than to let him know it hurts. I had changed Doctors shortly after my second episode and have only seen him once. I will discuss with him pain management as this really sucks!

Update on the pain with Coumadin issue. My Doctor suggested I try Cymbalta...I was a bit leery and did not think it would work, I mean I wasn't depressed and I didn't have fibromyalgia so why would it work?....I WAS WRONG!!!!!! Within a few days I had less pain in my joints, some days I still hurt but nothing like it was. I hate having to take another medication but to be able to move without pain is amazing! I feel like a new person, almost back to the way I was prior to my PE's.

It's nice to hear an update and that you're feeling better. I hadn't seen this discussion when you first posted it, but one thing I wondered is if the joint pain may have been related more to the event that caused you to need Coumadin rather than the Coumadin itself? The reason I say that is because I've recently been sick again and as a result of that, I've been stuck sitting or lying in bed a lot more than is normal for me. My hips, one in particular, has been hurting me quite badly, but I have attributed it more to this issue of being relatively immobile. For me, it's definitely not the warfarin because I've already been on that for years.

I do feel more pain if I am not moving as much while on the Cymbalta but when I wasn't taking it I hurt moving, sitting, laying, just non stop. Hubby and I was just having a conversation about changing to one of the newer drugs but I just can't do it until a reversal agent is out there. Hate taking another med due to Coumadin but not being at a pain level of 7 every day is worth it right now.
