Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

So, I'm wondering if any of you use some dependable birth control methods that don't involve hormones or IUDs. Like a lot of us, my DVTs were blamed on BC pills (both regular and progesterin-only) so I'm not using anything hormonal again.
I've also had two copper IUDs but they've both come out on their own (the last one only stayed in for three months!) so I'm not a candidate to try another one. Also, my husband has some occasional allergy issues with condoms, so we don't use those often either.
We've thought about sterilization (for him and/or me), but are not sure we want to close that door yet. (We're both in our 30s and have no kids.)
This puts me and my hubby back into the dark ages with birth control options. My OB/GYN has fitted me for a diaphragm but we're both leary of it and haven't used it yet.
Anyone have any experiences with this, or any other types of "old school" BC? Any input would be great ... we'd love to have sex like normal people again. :-)

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
lol - and if your husband worries about his allergy issues tell him you hear they're working on a male form of the iud and you hope he will have one inserted as soon as it's available. i bet condoms will sound pretty good to him then.
I'm 45 and do not plan on having my own children so I considered the Essure sterilization, but it seemed like such a long drawn out process, in my mind. I just wanted to get it all taken care of right away, hence the copper IUD.
I agree with jasme there are many different types of condoms, you could try the non-latex brands (downside they aren't as effective as the latex ones you usually need to use a spericide along with them.) However, there are some people that are really sensative and can't use any condoms or spermacide. This isn't a preference it is an actual allergy (rashes, itching, pain).
I'm going to dive off the platform here to say something about remaining childless: I have never regretted it, though everyone always told me I would. It has meant a lifetime of freedom, lived on my own terms. I have never once felt like I missed out on anything. There is WAY more to life than making babies and way more to a womans life than being a caretaker to kids. If I ever feel the need to be around kids, there are plenty in the world to choose from.
I am in no way bashing women who have chosen to be mothers - I love mothers, especially my own- I bring this up because the pressure for women to have children is relentless. When people ask me how many kids I have, I tell them "zero by choice" or they assume I was unable to, and somehow less of a woman. I get "why not?" questions from people all the time, as if I must be deranged not to want to experience the joys of parenthood. Or I get looks of pure, raw envy, usually from women who have sacrificed it all in the name of raising children. I hear regrets from women who had babies under pressure or by accident, and have yet to hear regrets from my childless friends.
If you really truly want children, I think you know it in your heart and there is really little decision about it. If you have to draw up a list of pros and cons, that says a lot right there. But I really believe motherhood should be a calling, not an assumed womanly function. If you feel you have other contributions to make in this life, pursue them with all your might.
Well, that's not what you were looking for. But I wanted to toss in my 2 cents on the pros of staying kid-free. And that I'm all for Vasectomy!!!
We always said if we wanted more children we would adopt. Giving birth doesn't necessarily make you "more" of a mother or a better mother for that matter. If you and your husband decide you want to be parents there are lots of babies that would love to have you.
I wish you the best in whatever decision you make. Take care.
