I had a ton of tests done about three months after my PEs. At this point, I don't remember what I had done, but that was probably part of it. Nothing traumatic, really, just getting a gauge of how well your lungs are working.

I've had several done. First one years ago, way before my PEs and they were normal of course.

Then another one when I was very short of breath years later. Normal. (I don't know if that was the beginning of my clotting, because that was never brought up or tested for)

Then the most recent, about 2 years ago----- after two PEs and times when I'm still VERY short of breath but my INR is always stable so they never check anything. (Never been a smoker)

The most recent one showed 'normal'! I can't say I know what that means or how it could be normal when I still get so short of breath.

The test is nothing to worry about, as far as discomfort etc.

Also, make sure you get as much information as you can from your doctor with regard to the results. I think I am basically fine, but I have gotten mixed messages from my doctor ranging from "something isn't right" to "everything is normal, but maybe you are out of shape" to results that finally show I have mild asthma. it was all very confusing to me through the process, but now I realize that I am essentially fine. I just have a little more trouble breathing when exercising than "normal" people.

May I add---- to get a copy of ALL your results sent to you! It's your right to have them. That way you can read them at your leisure and then go to Google to for more information.

I agree with you on getting the results sent. It was like pulling teeth trying to get a copy of my CT scan...and good thing I did, because no one bothered to mention it, but I have a small nodule on my thyroid. May be norhing, but I am getting an ultrasound to check it out this year since I already paid up my max on insurance

I had a similar experience. It was noted during a second ct scan that my thyroid was larger than on a previous scan, which had already showed an enlarged thyroid apparently but I had no idea.

Anyway, it probably is nothing since nodules and cysts on a thyroid aren't uncommon but it's good to get it checked out to not only be sure, but as a baseline should your thyroid change.
