Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
pleurisy, chest infection effects, or new PE?
Hello to all,
I had a massive bilateral PE and DVT in my right leg in 2010. I was very lucky and made a full recovery with no substantial damage; got off blood thinners after a year of rtreatment. Most of the time, it all feels like a bad dream, and I feel great. But this week I'm feeling concerned. I had some sort of chest infection/cold, associated with coughing. Then today I had a dull, squeezing sensation of pain over my heart, that comes intermittently. I also feel a bit out of breath, although it doesn't hurt to breathe in or anything. My rational mind is telling me that this is just pleurisy and discomfort from the effort of coughing, but some part of me (the traumatized part, I guess) is worrying that I might have something scarier going on with my lungs-- a new PE, even? Does anyone have this experience when you get a chest infection-- of pain in random places in your chest? I do think my lungs were traumatized by the massive bilateral clots (even the follow-up scan showed I have some minor scarring), so maybe getting these sorts of infections really knock me out or stress my lungs more than it would for a normal person. Any advice? considering seeing a doctor, but don't want to be a hyperchondriac....Thank you! Wishing you all well for your recovery. I remember how scary and upsetting it can be, in the weeks following. Sending you all strength and thoughts. :-)

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
