Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Has anyone on Xarelto gotten a flue shot?? I am hesitant since they don't seem to know what side affects it might have. I have not gotten them in the past but wonder if the PE makes us more prone to sickness like this.

I don't think the PE itself makes you more prone to the flu. I'd contact your doctor to see what he recommends for you. I got a pneumonia vaccine shortly after my PE diagnosis per the doctor who was treating my PE, not because my PE made me more vulnerable, but because if I did get pneumonia, it may be hard on me given the size of my PEs and that my lungs weren't up to snuff.

The flu varies so much from year to year that the shots aren't always the preventive measure people hope they are. If you are otherwise healthy, besides having had the PE, eat well, and rest enough you are no more susceptible than anyone else to get the flu. If for some other reason you have a comprised immune system, that can sometimes warrant getting a flu shot.

Yeah, I agree completely.

Thanks this all makes total sense...I will talk to my doc and unless he insists I will just continue on with no shot this year.

I am on Xarelto, had multiple bi-lateral PEs in June and just got a flu shot on Tuesday of this week. Docs highly recommended. I feel fine this week so no immediate apparent issues with getting the flu shot.

I'm on Xarelto and got both the pneumonia shot and flu shot together. No adverse reactions.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
