By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Need to vent, A little concerned

OK I'm not worried about PE's or DVT's at this point, well maybe just a little. Found out last week that my Total Knee replacement that I had almost 3 years ago is malfunctioning and I will probably have to have some sort of revision. Been asking around to see what kind of recovery time I'm looking at and what are the success rates of the total knee revision. The success rates look pretty good but the recovery time is about the same as when I had the first total knee put in. 2 weeks off then slowly build up through physical therapy, Don't know how long I'll be out of work. I'm just not ready to go through this again but looks as if i have no choice, since I am getting to the stage where it hurts like hell to just walk on level ground and do my job. I had to run to a rapid response the other day and that liked to have killed me. My knee and leg are pretty swollen and yes I am worried about clotting after the revision given my history. The hospital already decided they are putting me into the critical care unit just so they can keep an eye on me, (that in itself is scary as I work with all these people and I can just feel the paybacks coming my way). Anyway, thanks for letting me get this off my chest. I'll know more on what and when on the 8th of March.

Well there is nothing good about that at all, you're right. But now that they know you're prone to clotting, they can make extra sure that you don't clot after this surgery, right? And it'll all be worth it when you have a "brand new" knee? Hope you get some good info on March 8.

Ferr - we're practically neighbors . I live in Lewiston and was at St. Joe for 8 days during my PE episode. You're a tough one - running on a knee replacement. That comment really caught my eye because the wife is right on the verge of making the decision to have one of her knees replaced - she's in the doctor hunting stage, trying to find the best qualified between Lewiston and Pullman.

Probably the only 'paybacks' that you'll get from the ICU nurses is respect for the job you do as an emergency responder!

Hang in there Ferr! I can't imagine the pain you're in running on that knee. You'll probably be happy with a replacement, but yeah it is stressful in the meantime! None of us wants surgery, but I think those of us with clotting issues are more nervous about it than the average patient.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Ferr! Hang in there, surgery is never an easy thing to go through and with what we've all been through we have every right to be scared, especially you with your multiple clotting episodes. But you will be fine!! HUGS

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
