Not severe chest pain at 6 months but some chest pain for quite a while. Same with my leg. Most of the severe pain with the dvt was early. How's his anxiety and stress?

I think he has anxiety, stress and is a bit depressed. this is not how he envisioned college. He was in the ER twice last week.

Not to.dismiss his pain, but I know for me, the anxiety was really hard to deal with and I found it contributed to a lot of my physical feelings. Like I'd have a sharp.pain in my chest, which made me scared, which made me feel anxious which made me feel panicky and that triggered more pain and feeling like I couldn't breath, etc. You sort of become hyper sensitive to and hyper vigilant about every pain, twinge, feeling. So the pain and discomfort is amplified.

I'm sure it's so hard for him. I was in my early 40s when I had my pe/dvts and really struggled. Can't imagine being young and trying to figure it all out on top of being in school. I went to counseling for a short while, starting about a month after my diagnosis. It really helped me. Might he consider seeing someone?

you make some very valid points. He is getting an apt with a psychologist, he has become hyper aware of his body and now know that mentally he is off his game too.

Good for him. I think it will help him sort through a lot of feelings and concerns, things that unfortunately feel very isolating. It's hard for the people in our lives to understand, because on the surface, we look so normal, we've been told we are ok, to go about our life, etc. Inside though, we feel like we are either going to drop dead at any second, or that there's something wrong with us that we still feel so afraid and unwell, even when we've been told we're ok. It messes with your head completely.

I am sorry your son is going through this. Is he back to swimming be it practice or competitions? Perhaps with the high intense use of his lungs that may be accelerating his discomfort.

Not sure...I am far from a competitive athlete.

I hope he gets back to normal soon and I hope his spirits get back to normal soon.

thanks for the thoughts. He is back to practice and was even cleared to competition. I have mixed emotions about that, but thank god it is swimming, one of the best exercises for blood clots! I'll keep you posted. thank you.

ok, that's a new word to me. I'll look into it. Interesting in that the primary doc said something about ribs the other day.
