Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
major anxiety and depression after PE and DVT
I was diagnosed with DVT over 2 months ago. After my leg swelled up crazy big and hurt like hell went into the er and then found out I had PE. Spent about a week in the hospital. I was only out for about a week when my leg swelled even more and the pain got worse went back into the hospital for another week. Doc said the usual treatments work for about 98% of patients and I'm just that lucky 2% that blood thinners weren't working. Anyways, I've been out of the hospital for a few days now and I'm just so overwhelmed with everything. Fear - fear I'm gonna just drop dead or have a Stoke, or that treatment still isn't working which I'm pretty sure I'm worse. It's like if I'm not hooked up to all those freaking IV's, nothing else works. How I've taken my life for granted. How many people didn't come see me or call. No flowers no cards. Just myself, and my pity party I can't help but have. The anxiety that Everytime I get it I'm wondering if I'm about to die if my condition got worse or if I'm just trippin and have a little anxiety. Oh and my favorite (for reals :) the fact that I will nut up on anyone at the drop of a dime. I've become extremely defensive angry sad and emotional since all this. Anyone else have any similar experience I'd love to hear about it.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
I saw a therapist about a month after diagnosis because I started having panic attacks, something I’d never experienced before. The therapy was really helpful to me. The therapist was referred to me by my Employer’s employee assistance program, as I had no idea where to start. I’d never been to a therapist before. I can’t speak enough about how helpful it was to have a place to go to just sort out and reconcile all that had happened and how I was going to move forward so I could purge this stranger I’d become and be myself again.
I also started doing little meditative tricks to calm myself when I started getting overwhelmed with feeling like I was going to drop dead every five minutes (body scan meditation, positive mantras, etc).
Also it just takes time. As you get more and more distance from the event, you start to feel better and the intense feelings start to soften a bit. I also found once I was able to get out in the world, see friends, have the stamina to do activities, my mental state improved tremendously.
