By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Hi All,
I'm 2 months out from breast cancer surgery, and am still off of Warfarin, but currently on once a day Lovenox shots. I had some complications with Warfarin interacting with at least one of the meds they put me on after surgery. I was in the hospital for 3 nights to recovery from surgery and then the following week had to be re-admitted for 3 more nights to get that under control. My INR went to 7. Here is my question, I feel really good just doing the once a day shots. I always felt a little strange on Warfarin, like something was off. I'm not sure I want to go back on it. Does anyone just take the shots long term? Besides Xarelto, is there any other options? I see my Hemotologist on Dec 2, so we will be discussing everything. The last time I saw him we were thinking I would come off of blood thinners, but now with the recent cancer diagnosis, I don't know if he will want me to do that, but maybe...

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
I've seen some people here take lovenox long term, but I think those were situations where they clotted while on warfarin despite a therapeutic INR or were warfarin resistant. In the US, I think xarelto is the main alternative. But I think all of it is worth a discussion with your hema, to know what are the risks, benefits etc. And it's worth discussing if he thinks you need to take anything at all.
Man, it can get complicated when there are other health issues involved.

Also, I don't know that risk of bleeding death is unique to Xarelto alone. Warfarin does that too, as does pretty much any anticoagulant. That's what anticoagulants do. It's just that somehow our litigious society sees Xarelto as an opportunity for monetary gain--even though we all know anticoagulants are dicey meds and can be just as dangerous as they are helpful.
