Lovenox, Dentists and cheating?

I feel like I've been posting a lot of questions lately.  I guess it's because I'm 6 weeks out of a surgery and while still on lovenox for who-knows-how-long, I'm starting to look forward and I'm going back to living my life.



My biggest problem is the doctor I'm dealing with is my oncologist and he seems somewhat unfamiliar with the PE thing.  I don't see him until after Thanksgiving. I basically ask questions via email.



Anyway.  While on Lovenox, I will need to go to my dentist for an annual cleaning.  My dentist needs a note from my doctor (I can get my regular doc to do this) saying I'm on the blood thinner.   When you all go to the dentist, do you skip your injection that morning and take it after you're done?  I may need  some crown work or maybe even an extraction and I wonder how that works.  (this was the dentist part of the question)



and for the cheating question.   Since starting the blood thinners, I was told no drinking and no advil.   I can live without the drinking, but every so often, I could really use that advil. Tylenol just doesn't do the trick in relieving arthritis pain.  Has anyone snuck an Advil every once in a while; like maybe twice a month?  And how about a glass of wine, maybe once or twice a month?

I never have gone off anticoagulants just for a dental cleaning. Does your dentist require that for just the cleaning.? He or your doctor should advise you when to come off and restart, depending on the type of procedure.

I drink and have no issue. One or two should be fine. I think the big concern with drinking is more about getting drunk, falling, hitting your head and bleeding.

I'd ask your doc about Advil. Some docs say absolutely not, and some say ok once in a while.

I didn't go off the xarelto when I had my teeth cleaned. I did tell them ahead of time that if my gums bled, it might be the thinner. But now i'm on the shots which I think are stronger. I'll ask. I just like to know what happens with others, as well. I can always rely on you to give me answers that make sense and of course, I'll talk to my doc about the dentist appointment, which isn't for several weeks still. I've always been a cheap date when it comes to drinking, I really don't like to drink more than a glass of wine. I can't finish a bottle of beer. When I had my knees replaced, there were no clotting problems as I had dopplers leading up to the surgery that were clear. I had ruptured baker cysts but they had to rule out clots. So I just took full strength aspirin after those surgeries to prevent clots. The knee surgeries were in 2014 and 2015 and the aspirin did the trick. The cancer I had apparently caused these clots and therefore the lovenox is kind of new here.

Yeah I agree the lovenox sort of ups the ante on the bleeding. Still I think for regular cleaning you should be fine. But there are sometimes those dentists who are super conservative and won't like it that you're on lovenox for a cleaning. So I've had my teeth cleaned while on warfarin, while on xarelto and I'm not sure if ever while I was on lovenox. But I've never had a gum bleeding issue with a cleaning except for a little bit of blood. My dentist and hygienist both have it noted I'm on the stuff and they've yet to make an issue of it, but I've not had any work done that involves surgery or removing teeth.

TO me, drinking is not a big deal because I don't over do it, usually. Advil, well that's more complicated for me, because I already am not supposed to take any NSAIDs because I have ulcerative colitits, which causes GI bleeds. But I will tell you I just spoke with my GI doc a month or two ago about some arthritis I'm struggling with and he said he would be ok with me taking very sparingly amounts of Ibuprofen, to help with the pain and inflammation, despite being on xarelto and having UC. I've actually not tried it yet. I just feel like that's probably more bleeding risks at one time I want to take at the moment. But I may get used to the idea and try it. I'm kind of like that, sort of conservative in the beginning and then I get to the point where I'm like, oh screw it, ha ha! So yeah, talk to your doc. Sadly I'm also a do as I say not as I do kind of person too.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
