Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I've added a new medical problem to my list...
My right foot has been bothering me on and off for about a month. I'm on my feet 9-10 hours a day at work and it would hurt when I got home at night but be fine the next morning. I thought maybe I needed to get some better shoes (mine are pretty broken down but comfy since I wear them every day).
Yesterday at lunch, I'm eating and suddenly realize that my foot really hurts. It feels tight and swollen and it hurts when I walk on it. About two hours later I develop a bruise at the base of three of my toes and my pain is getting worse as I limp around.
I saw my doctor on super-short notice last night. She's reassures me that it isn't more clots (would have been hard, since my INR was 3.1 on Friday) but sends me for an x-ray. Had the x-ray an hour ago and am now sitting at home waiting to see what is going on. Also had a blood draw, since if my INR is sky-high maybe I'm just bleeding randomly.
We're thinking maybe a stress fracture of some sort, which I'm a little worried might be connected to the warfarin. (Doesn't it inhibit calcium absorbsion or something?) I take calcium daily, but maybe it isn't enough if my bones are randomly breaking.
Feeling a little anxious too, which is kinda weird since this doesn't really involve my lungs. (Although huffing around on crutches is making me SOB.)
Anyway ... anyone have anything similar happen to them? I could use some stories or some positive thoughts. Thanks ...

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
How much calcium are you taking? You should take it with your vitamin D and magnesium for optimal absorption and bone development, if you're not already doing so.
Don't get too stressed out TNT. I think when we're on a good streak and then something happens to shake things up, that can make those of us who are prone to anxiety a bit jumpy. Deep breath... no worries.
Now like I said, I know I had odd, out-of-the-blue things happen to me before having PE, and that was pretty much just like any of those times. It's just that now instead of saying, "Huh that's strange," and forgetting it, we automatically worry that something isn't right. Anyway, I think of that to calm myself down, but of course I do keep an eye on things to see if it appears to get worse. Oh, the blessings of having blood issues!!
The x-ray came back negative for a visible fracture, so they are sending me to a orthopaedic specialist tomorrow afternoon. No weight bearing until then ... so more crutches.
It is odd that you mention it rmb, but I did have an old injury there from 1994 when I had a horse step on my outside toes. Don't know if anything broke, but it required physical therapy to get my range of motion back. Seems odd that it would just pop up 17 years later though ...
Right now I'm taking 1200 mg Calicium, 800 IU Vitamin D, and 500 mg Magnesium daily. Been doing that for almost a year at this point. Take half in the morning and half in the evening, so my body isn't trying to work through all that at the same time.
My INR is 3.1, so that's all good too. Just dunno what it is. Feels fine right now, although I haven't put any weight on it in about 24 hours now. The bruise also doesn't seem to be getting bigger (stabilized at about 2.5 inches). Guess I'll just have to wait and see.
As Inigo Montoya would say ... "I hate waiting."
You got the old calcium / magnesium ratio down and it's good that you take it with vitamin d. Clearly you're a pro!
As far as popping up after 17 years, there's a little known thing called getting older. Any injury, major or minor, experienced in your youth or early adulthood will sure come back to bite you in the butt later. Trust me on this.
I too freak out at things now that I would've never freaked out at before but I think that's normal. I hope it's nothing serious! Hugs and good healing thoughts headed your way!
He thinks I did something minor to my foot that didn't even register to my brain as "trauma." Because my INR is a little high (3.1), the "trauma" caused bleeding and bruising. The soft tissues in my foot filled up with blood, which is what is causing the pain when I walk (since I am basically just walking on a huge bruise). He thinks it'll resolve itself in a week or two. If it doesn't, then I'm in for an MRI.
So I guess the moral of the story is that 3.1 is a little too high for me, since it causes random bleeding with little provocation that causes me to be unable to walk.
At this point, though, I am exhausted from gimping around on crutches for two days (although I get to keep using them until it is comfortable to put full weight on my foot). I have bruises, soreness, aching from the crutches too and feel like someone kicked me to the curb and then sat on me to eat lunch.
I haven't had anything like this happen before because of warfarin, but I guess there is a first time for everything. *sigh*
It may have been more of a provocation than you realize. Anyways, glad it's nothing worse and sorry the crutches are kicking your butt.
I'm glad they found an explanation and hopefully it will re-absorb soon! I hate crutches too, but I guess it's better than hopping on one foot. :oP
It's been really icy here, and since my INR was 4.3 last week, I've been walking around like I'm 200.
*healing thoughts*
Hugs

Well, I was at work yesterday and walked more than was maybe good for my foot. It was sore and achy last night and I have a new bruise couple inches long on the bottom of it now. That bruise wasn't there on Sunday, but I'm not sure when it showed up since I haven't been routinely looking at the bottom of my foot.
I'm annoyed because it isn't healing as fast as I want it too (does anything?) and because I took a serious emotional hit when I discoverd the new bruising. It isn't just that this problem is continuing, it is also that my brain gets overwhelmed trying to deal with it, which just makes everything harder.
Whine, whine, whine ...
