I didn't get sick until about 3 months after my PE. I had a sore throat and lots of coughing. The coughing did bring back some of my chest pains from my PE, so don't be too surprised if you feel some aggravation since your lungs are still very much in the healing process.

I didn't end up taking any medicine except some tylenol. I didn't want to mess with my INR. I think there are other posts here that recommend talking to your pharmacist if you end up needing some medicine to help.

Thanks for the info, Daffnae. Yes, my pharmacist said to ask before taking any meds, whether prescribed or over the counter.

I will talk to my doctor tomorrow. Just fear that it's a cold more than the healing process!!

I had my PE in 2009 and about 3 weeks after being discharged from the hospital, I came down with the swine flu of all things! I was a total mess. Get better soon. :)

Yes I empathize with you. I'm off the coumadin now, but on it I was restricted to Tylenol which did nothing for me. And I couldnt take my normal cold meds either. Additionally I was like a hypochondriac, which I am told is normal after a life threatening event. Yes your pharm or coumadin team will advise you. If you feel feverish take your temperature.

Thanks for the feedback. I did see my doctor, yesterday, but she simply reassured me that all was well right now, though my heart rate was a little high.

While she didn't think the coughing had anything to do with the PEs, I think they do and I've noticed that if I keep hydrated... which I sometimes forget to do :( ... I do feel a lot better.

As for taking meds, other than Tylenol and the 2 prescription meds, I have not felt the need to take anything else. If I have to, I'll have to coordinate with my pharmacist, as I know that Coumadins interact with just about all meds.

I do feel better today, though having to go to the doctor's kind of exhausted me yesterday.

Hi I really understand how difficult it is after a PE, my 21year old son had a massive central PE and 9 small ones almost 2years ago now. He was rushed to hospital by mbulance and went into respiratory failure and was put on a ventilator for 9 weeks he also had pneumonia.We are 2years post PE and my son is still suffering he has constant pain in his side and remains exhausted and despite investigations they say there is nothing wrong.I know it has left him psychologically scarred and any cough,cold etc he panics he went back to work and has tried to persevere but he can only manage part time due to exhaustion.His life is unrecognisable now but nobody really seems to understand.He has to inject tinzaparin daily as his warfarin couldn't be regulated he takes pain killers daily too.

Oddy, has your son considered counseling to help him with psychological affects? Many many people here, including myself, sought therapy after the PE because we struggled with the anxiety and fear. I sometimes think we become so hyper vigilant about our bodies after a PE that we feel every ache and pain going forward in our bodies very intensely. It's exhausting to manage that constant awareness and fear day in and day out. I have to wonder if still feeling so bad two years out in an otherwise healthy 21 year old may be partially related to depression and stress.
