By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Is it normal to feel awful with a cold after PE?

My multiple, bi-lateral PE diagnosis was 2 1/2 months ago. I've caught my kids' terrible chest cold.

I now feel extremely dizzy and shaky, to the point that I almost fell after drinking a glass of water. Is this a normal reaction? My instinct is to head for the ER, again :(

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Honestly I think it's more about whatever nasty thing is going around. I know people at work have been out with something similar, where it's like the worst bug ever.

Also a member here got a cold from her kids and she's really suffering, and it's like never ending. Sure recovering from a PE can probably make you feel worse, but I do think something really nasty is going around.

Thanks rmb: I know that my daughter has been having a real rough time with this cold too. I just feel almost as bad as the day I went to the ER: so weak and out of breath! But then, the coughing fits are draining in themselves.

If you're really suffering with the breathing, it wouldn't hurt to make an appointment with your doc just to make sure you don't have bronchitis or pneumonia too. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water as well.

I had some sort of incredibly evil sickness in March of this year. Coughed like crazy for about two weeks. Couldn't even lie down to sleep cause I would just keep coughing. Was really awful.

I don't know if these illnesses are really worse after PEs, but I know I fret about causing possible damage with all the coughing and wheezing and etc. I mean, we've all had stuff that made us feel like we've been hacked up by the cat, but it just seems so amplified after PEs, doesn't it?

Hope you start feeling better soon ... definitely check in with your doc if you're not starting to see an improvement soon.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
