By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hi, the Coumadin has caused me to become anemic and now I take iron pills everyday. (ferrous sulfate 325mg). Does anybody else take iron and if so, has it affected your INR at all?

HI,

The same, became anaemic and I am on iron. I took ferrous sulfate but made me feel breathless and have a tight chest, changed to ferrous fumarate and seems ok. inr has been the same.

The doctor told me to start taking iron tablets because my iron levels are low. The next INR check I had (about 5 days later) my level was over 4. I am not yet stable (almost 2 months on from bilateral PE and DVT), but It had jumped heaps. Not sure if that was because of the iron or not. My next INR is this Friday. Will be interesting.

Hi, I had my Coumadin check today and my INR was 3.8! I can always tell when I am running high because I get dizzy and a strange feeling in my head and I get very fatigued. I told the doctor I thought it was high before I had the blood test done and then she said that I know my body very well (probably too well). Anyway, I asked her about the iron and she said it doesn't affect the Coumadin. Now I have to skip today and tomorrow and start a lower dose on Sunday and retest on Monday. Not sure if there is a correlation between the two or not.

My last 4 months on coumadin I was taking 3 325 mg ferrous sulfate tabs a day with no problems - my ferritin was low and I was having anemic symptoms. Took 2 months and an ablation to get my ferritin levels up to where I had no symptoms from low iron. Good luck.

I take one ferrous sulfate tab every day due to mild anemia. It seems to have worked and hasn't affected my INR .

Hi I take iron tablets for serious anaemia and my Warfarin levels have dropped dramatically so I need to see my GP again next Friday and they have upped the dose of Warfarin as my blood as thickened.

I take 9 msg of war fun and I’ve had 4 iron infusions since my PE in Oct 2017 after I Hemoraged. If your iron is low it makes breathing difficult and only adds to your recovery. While iron infusion made me sick the day of the iron generally helped.
