By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Incident of Sleep Apnea after PE?

I had massive bilateral PE in September 2012. Now, nearly 3 years later, I've been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I haven't got the results yet, will get that on the 27th, but I think it is quite severe since I ended needing oxygen after a very minor procedure: I kept quitting breathing the minute I dozed off!

Is there any known link between PE and Sleep Apnea? Now, I guess that, it my case, it might be hereditary as my sister also has it.

I've never heard of a link between the two but I don't know for sure. I would ask whoever ends up diagnosing you the cause. I think there is a hereditary component with sleep apnea. I've been doing some reading on it because my husband has it. Well he's never been diagnosed clinically but since he keeps me up all night with the choking and snoring for the last 15 years, I feel pretty confident he does have it.

i have had PE in 2010 , then sleep apnea in 2013

probably the sleep apnea cause the previous PE , (it wasn't diagnosed ealier)

sleep apnea is known to have endothelial dysfunction that predispose somebody to clot

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
