Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Although I enjoyed the freedom of not watching what I ate and other freedoms I was always a bit afraid of the dangers these new anti-coags have associated with them----- mainly no easy way to reverse any bleeding that might occur.
That's just my opinion and I'm sure there are plenty of other who might feel differently.
I know that the original poster here clotted while on warfarin so that does kind of force your had a bit.
When I was in the ER, the vascular surgeon and then the hospitalist both made it sound like Xeralto was about the only non-surgical, non-invasive option...
I stopped Xarelto a few months ago and started Pradaxa. Both gave unwanted side effects---- enough to make me 'almost eager' to go back to Coumadin for which I already have started the ramp down/ramp up process from Pradaxa. In two days I'll be back to Coumadin only and back to testing my INR with my home monitor weekly.
I do agree with your doctor wanting to wait. But "Never venture, never know" (grin)
@BillyMinder----- Xarelto seems to be favored slightly over Pradaxa (for reasons I've forgotten). Good luck on your course of Xarelto.
Their offer is saving me $78 a month!
I'm thankful for that!
I'm new to this forum. I have been on Xalerto since Sept 9, 2014 the day my life change forever-being diagnosed with PE in both lungs and have no adverse side affects whatsoever. I was given a medical death sentence by the docs and radiologist but God has other plans! :-)
I see my provider in a week for my 6 month follow-up to undergo another CT scan and ultra sound with my legs. I'm a runner, so running basically saved my life I was told. I'll soon learn whether I need to continue on xalerto or whether they will take me off, since I inherited PE from my mother who died from the same medical condition PE that I now live with.
