Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I'm day on day 6 w/o anticoagulants, so yes I understand what you are thinking, BUT...
Your body has gone through hell and back, we think that we are going to be just fine as soon as we go off the meds, well no, heck I'm dealing with PTS(post thrombotic syndrom) which means that when the clot was in the early stage, it did some damage to my veins and to the valves in my veins and yes it still hurts, but it's not another clot forming.
I guess you need to get re-acquainted with YOUR body and it's pains, that's what I'm doing right now, every action has a reaction...
Enjoy your new life, I mean that.
:)
I'm not addressing the PE side of your post, because I can't, but the rest stands...
I have now been off of warfarin for more than one month. I can relate to how you are feeling...do your best to fight the anxiety. I make sure each day to walk a lot and do other exercises (this really helps me to feel good and in control)& drink lots of water. I also started to drink a glass of wine each day (okay...sometimes, two :) and eat a couple of pieces of dark chocolate. Also started taking fish oil again. Really....it is not very likely that you are going to clot in the first month. I was told that by doctors and have read as much. It generally takes trauma of some kind or some kind of trigger if it is going to happen. Clots generally take a while to build up. I get the muscle aches too...but I had those while I was taking warfarin and there was no clot then so I try to ignore those little aches. Try to really enjoy your freedom...keep yourself busy and exercise (walking really feels good for me).
I got my one-month d-dimer results back last week. They were low....the same as right before I came off of warfarin (220). I was so excited and shed a few tears. It could still happen again, but chances are much, much lower. I've asked my hematologist to get a d-dimer each month for my first year off...I just want to track it for a while.
I'm so relaxed now....still have my moments, but am really trying to just enjoy myself. Be strong and kick this in the butt.
Take care,
Nancy

thanks guys please keep posting on this thread... i so need it!
Anyways my gf is picking me up some ant acid to try to stop this heartburn crap, and until i can cope better with my anxiety i think my adavan will always be by my side. Thank u all for ur kind words.
I know my dr who is a family friend, would not take me of coumadin if he had any doubt....not just bc of his reputation but bc he knows my family and works with my gf, i know he cares. He believes ill live a completly normal life, and im in a dark place right now that Im not so sure... i feel like im waiting to drop dead any minute all my prgoress feels like it went down the drain!!!!
My dr gave me a huge grin! he is exited for me and my future, and he gave me girlfriend a huge smile and a hug the next day at work... he wouldnt let me get hurt again if it was high risk! He asked me to lose 30 lbs which is cool with me cuz i want to. He wants me in tip top shape and so do I.
Problem: all these mystery pains make it hard for me to motivate myself to work out help advice .....
" You are going to be just fine, remember, you cannot clot again. You have been on the medication. You just over did and your body is letting you know that. I hope you feel better soo

I did send Ida a message asking her to correct her post, but obviously she has not seen it.
YOU CANNOT CLOT AGAIN, YOU HAVE BEEN ON THE MEDICATIONS is totally wrong.
I know some people that have clotted while on anticoagulants,(highly unusual but can still happen) even if we have been on the medication,( I assume you meant anticoagulant) we can still clot, warfarin takes 5 to 7 days to get out of your system meaning after seven days of stopping taking warfarin, your body can clot if you do the wrong things...
Ashley, why didn't your physician opt for a low-intensity coumadin treatment (INR 1.5-2.0). Anything below 1.5 is of little use; same applies to aspirin. Discuss the PREVENT Trial data with our doctor and if you need any data, send me a message I'll be glad to help get you the information.
