By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

i did it: Stopped smoking

I posted last week about starting smoking again, because I was afraid of gaining weight... and then wanted to stop but was afraid of creating havock with my INR.

Well, this morning I lost my pack so I took it as a sign: decided to not buy another. And to help with the not gaining weight, I went back to Weight Watchers: am below my goal, so no cost involved and they're in my building at work, so no real excuse not to go.

I was given a second chance at life by surviving these massive PEs... so I'm not going to jeopardize my life for something as stupid as smoking to prevent weight gain.

YAY! I know how you feel. I had somewhat quit smoking months prior to PE but then I would have the occasional cigarette when I was drinking. After me PE, I decided no more smoking. I know how it affects clots and since I have permanent lung damage I figured it was just best. I might have cheated a time or two but for the most part I am not a smoker. I am waiting to go back to the gym. I was on a roll before I got sick. I joined a gym like 2 months prior and I haven't been since but I plan on going back. I didn't notice any weight gain when I quit but that's because I was making sure I wasn't putting a bunch of junk and sweets in my body.

Good for YOU! I like your attitude and what you said about being given a second chance!

I quit a number of years ago and it was the most empowering thing I had ever done for myself!

Thank you so much for all the words of encouragement. I must say I wish I hadn't bought that first pack of cigarettes 2 weeks ago: The urge to light up is much worse now!! But I'm sticking to it because I know I'm worth it.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
