Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Hi All; I havent been on here for a few months
elsners
although I read post here once in a while.
I'm 15 months post PE. And I've been searching for why I had a PE.
I think I finally have the answer. I'm 67 now very good health except fo my weight is quite high. I've been in heavy physical construction for my life don't do drugs or drink much or smoke. Diet is always broiled meat, lots of vegetables, low sugar and fat . But I have eaten lots of burgers and such at times. Over the last 44 years. Obviously I eat too much.
But the reason I had the PE was DEHYDRATION. I was put on HYDROCLOROTHIAZIDE, a diuretic for first line against high Blood pressure. My pressure was tested in the Docs office @ 135 or so . But I have strong white coat syndrome, . I tested yesterday at 110/65/76, at home, very good numbers and I've been off the HCTZ for 8 weeks now. I test at home early am and late pm.
The HCTZ gets the water out making it easier for the heart to pump a and millions are on the stuff especially as we get older. I my case I used little salt as I used a salt substitute, I drank a lot of coffee a diuretic ,diet Pepsi anther diuretic and I changed life stile going from active construction work too sitting at a desk day and nigh without moving around. When you dehydrate the blood gets thicker and can clot. My ankles went first like they would burst but I ignored them. When I did go to the ER they missed the diagnosis and sent me home. So please be careful of the Hydrochorothiazide the doctors aren't aware enough of the side effects. The people I know on it, use a lot of salt still and that's what the Hctz does is excretes the salt. So if you don't eat salt please be careful.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Thanks for adding the info about diuretics. The more everyone knows, the more effective we can be to help others avoid this roller coaster ride called Pulmonary Embolism.
