Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hello all,
So I have been feeling great lately ( for the most part) and at the worst time, right before I was getting ready to go our for halloween fun at night, I started to feel some chest pains, very general... not sharp not pressure.. just like general. I know earlier I had gone to a halloween office party where I ate WAY to many goodies!
So I did an experiment and took some TUMS ( i dunno if my Uk buddies have them so they are chewable antacid tablets for your tummy ) and low and behold...ten minutes later 'chest pains' diminished!
Now being the bank of chest pain memories that I am, I have noticed that lately the only time my chest hurts is the nights that I might have a heavy meal and its always the same general pain.... So now Im wondering has this been heartburn these past times that I was so disapointed that my chest was hurting????
I had a little twinkle in my eye last night, just because I was laughing in my mind that Im always thinking everything is my PE...and its not. I dont even have a clot anymore, Im just still healing.
But anyways goofy story for you guys to remember, not every pain is the end of the world or something life threatening!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Note that warfarin can cause GI issues like bloating, gas, etc. So some of that can be caused by the meds.
I had chest pains all day real bad. I asked him and he told me to go to over the counter prilosec. My Gastro-intestional system has never been prone to being upset. Maybe this side effect is to blame. But I must admit instead of that I took a Zanax 25mg and that eased the burden.
You are right. It is hard to differentiate the chest pain with coumadin side effect, gas, or PE inflamation. I think it is stress related. Anxiety provked chest pains.
since i started on the blood thinners i get it at least once a week. the odd thing is it makes no sense when i get it. i know a lot of people with reflux have horrible discomfort if they eat too much tomatoes or peppers. ive gotten heartburn off a bowl of grits (without hot sauce no less), and on another day had stuffed peppers with red sauce and nothing.
I just wanted to add here about chest pain in general ... one thing that helps ease my mind is that a lot of our chest pain means we're healing (I've heard in the earlier stages it could be the smaller clots traveling harmlessly further down the vessels and dissolving, and that it can also mean scar tissue is forming).
Even though I feel like I've been dragging lately (serious motivational issues), I am realizing that all my various chest pains are nearly gone ... it gives me some peace of mind that ... yes, it just goes to show that it all leads to recovery and feeling better. Slowly, but surely!
P.S. - My first initial "discomfort" I had with the PE I totally thought was heartburn, and chewed Tums obessively all day long to no relief whatsoever ... so the fact that your pain went away after the Tums: YAY! And PHEW! :o)
AlexandraK, you're so right; my acid reflux chest pain feels just like my anxiety chest pain, which at times, feels like my PE did. Madness. That's why it's so important to keep our wits about us, so we can really tune into our bodies and start to know what's what.
i actually havent had a whole lot of chestpain, just the heartburn. and a big stitch in my side from sucking wind the first month and a half or so after my PE
its one of the minor pains in the butt, but like cupcake said i can live with it for the short term. its a whole hell of a lot better than the other option
