Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with a small clot in my calf and multiple bilateral PEs in Oct 2015. Thankfully, I've had a very uncomplicated and quick recovery and have been back to working out full force. I moved to NYC in January, so had to find a new hematologist for my final checkup. I had 10 tubes of blood drawn, an ultrasound, and a normal (new patient) consult.
But then I got my bill. $600 for the hematologist consult (including $100 for blood draw), $125 for ultrasound, $1700 for blood tests. I'm on a high deductible insurance plan (until I meet my $1300 deductible and 10% thereafter), so it looks like this one visit is going to cost me at least $1500. Then, my hematologist called me suggesting I schedule a follow up appointment to discuss the results from my appointment 3 weeks ago. This will be another $250.
My doctor seems like a nice person and is a great doctor, but are these costs normal?? I guess I've never really been truly sick before so I didn't realize how expensive healthcare is in this country?
Could others share their stories? This group has been so helpful for my recovery. Thank you everyone! xo

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
I know for the one night I spent in the hospital a couple years ago, the bill was more than $10,000. Thankfully, my insurance covered it entirely!
I actually don't think a 1300 deductible is that high.
But it's true you really don't realize how expensive it all is until you have a health issue. It makes you grateful to have coverage.
