By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Grrrr ...twice weekly Dr visits

I am 4 mths post PE and still seeing my Dr twice a week most of the time, i did get back to weekly for about 3 weeks prior to a minor gyno surgery last month and my INR has been all over the place since then.
I am doing a teaching degree at the moment and i start my final internship next week, 10 weeks of teaching, i just wish i didn't have to find the time to go the Drs twice a week as well!!!! Frustrated and I have 8mths of warfarin therapy left.

Are you seeing your doctor because you have to have your INRs checked at the doctor's ofice? I go to a lab for my INR and so I never have to see him. I just get my INR tested, he gets the results the same day or the morning the next day, I get a call with the results and any dosage adjustments. Ask if there's an altenative.

Any way you can get a home tester for the rest of your warfarin treatment? Might be dicey, since you're switching countries and insurance plans partway through, but it would be worth asking about anyway. My doctor's office contacted the company and the company dealt with my insurance. A lady showed up at my house and trained me in about an hour.

I hear ya about the frustrations of getting the INR to stabilize after a surgery. I had two surgeries done in 2011 and it took months to settle down after that. Course, the fact that I was on and off anti-biotics afterwards didn't help either.

Yes RMB i get my INR tested at my Drs office, he has a coagucheck monitor. I am intending on buying a coagucheck myself before the move to Denver in November but my Dr will still want appointments until I am in range consistently so there is no rush to buy the coagucheck just yet. But it's frustrating to have to find the time for appointments especially since my workload will be horrendous during my internship.

Do you get charged each time you go in for an office visit?

Yeah, that would make me crazy too. I'd want to figure out a different approach my doc. At least with a lab, you're in and out, no appointment.

I do not get charged at all for the visits - thanks to Australia's very generous medicare system. It's just finding the time that is annoying.

Yeah, I mean if your think of your time as money, which I do during the work week, it definitely isn't free.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
